Welcome! I am Sarah Garcia, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I help individuals heal from trauma, navigate significant life challenges, and connect to their most authentic selves. My approach to healing is warm, relaxed and collaborative. My goal is to create a space that feels safe and supportive while we explore any negative beliefs or experiences that may be holding you back from living your most fulfilling life. My hope is that after each therapy session you will feel a little stronger, more capable and more compassionate toward yourself.
During the first session, my client can expect that I will do my best to create a warm and inviting space where they can share what challenges they are facing. Together we will collaborate on developing a treatment plan that will feel comfortable, effective and achievable for them.
My approach to healing combines client-centered, cognitive behavioral, attachment science, and trauma informed models of therapy. My varied training, tools, skills, and experience allow me to tailor my therapeutic approach to what feels most helpful to each individual client.
Do you feel stuck, overwhelmed, lost or depleted? Acknowledging that things aren’t working out the way you want them to, is really powerful. And recognizing that you don't have to figure it all out alone is the first step toward meaningful and lasting change. I specialize in working with adult clients seeking support with anxiety reduction, stress management, trauma, PTSD, grief/loss, relationship issues, divorce, healing from attachment wounds, & narcissistic abuse recovery.
An attachment-based approach to therapy looks at the connection between early attachment experiences with primary caregivers, and how those early experiences have shaped the way that an adult client interacts in their present day relationships.
EMDR is a heavily researched, evidence based model of therapy. It is an effective treatment for helping clients overcome symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and PTSD. EMDR is a structured therapy that utilizes bilateral movement to help clients reprocess traumatic memories. Through this process clients often experience a significant reduction in the vividness and emotional response to their traumatic life events.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an effective therapeutic treatment for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, and relationship challenges. CBT treatment helps client's identify and challenge unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving. CBT helps clients learn healthy coping and calming strategies, and gain confidence in themselves.
