Hello, I’m Eki Nwankwor Chukson, MSN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to helping individuals achieve better mental health and overall well-being. I provide compassionate, culturally sensitive care through comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and supportive therapy for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. My practice is built on collaboration, respect, and evidence-based treatment. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, mood disorders, or life stressors, I strive to create a safe, supportive environment where you feel heard, empowered, and equipped to make meaningful progress toward your goals.

First session

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin building a strong foundation for your care. We’ll start with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, where we discuss your current concerns, symptoms, medical and mental health history, lifestyle factors, and treatment goals. This helps me gain a complete understanding of your unique situation and identify the best path forward. During the session, you can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you are encouraged to share openly at your own pace. Together, we’ll review your symptoms, explore any factors affecting your well-being, and discuss potential treatment options, which may include medication management, supportive therapy, lifestyle recommendations, or additional resources. By the end of the appointment, you’ll have a clearer understanding of your diagnosis (if applicable), a personalized treatment plan, and an opportunity to ask questions. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, informed, and hopeful about the next steps in your mental health journey.

Strengths

One of my greatest strengths is my ability to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves. I combine clinical expertise with genuine compassion, taking time to understand each person’s unique experiences, cultural background, and goals rather than focusing solely on symptoms or diagnoses. My approach stands out because I integrate evidence-based medication management with supportive therapy and a holistic perspective on mental wellness. I believe in working collaboratively with clients, empowering them through education, open communication, and personalized treatment plans that address the whole person. Clients often appreciate my calm, approachable style and my commitment to helping them build lasting resilience, confidence, and emotional well-being.

Ideal clients

I am best positioned to serve individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, stress-related disorders, trauma-related symptoms, substance use disorders, and difficulties with emotional regulation or life transitions. I work well with clients who are motivated to better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and who are open to learning practical strategies to improve their mental health. My approach is particularly beneficial for individuals seeking to develop healthier coping skills, manage psychiatric symptoms, improve daily functioning, and build resilience. I also support clients who are interested in combining evidence-based psychotherapy with medication management to achieve comprehensive treatment outcomes. My goal is to provide a collaborative, supportive, and patient-centered environment that empowers individuals to make meaningful and lasting changes in their lives.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques into both psychotherapy and medication management appointments. I assist patients in identifying negative or unhelpful thought patterns that may contribute to conditions such as anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, and other mental health concerns. Throughout treatment, I support patients in examining and reframing cognitive distortions, strengthening adaptive coping skills, and establishing realistic behavioral objectives. CBT serves as a valuable complement to medication therapy by equipping patients with effective tools to manage symptoms, enhance daily functioning, and decrease the likelihood of relapse. This evidence-based therapeutic approach encourages individuals to take an active role in their treatment, recovery, and long-term mental health outcomes.
