LPCC, 8 years of experience
My name is Ariel Wilcoxen. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) based in Southern California, and I work with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults, couples, families, and adolescents. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma. My theoretical orientation draws from Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Adlerian theory, and Transactional Analysis. I also have experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Reality Therapy, and several other evidence-based approaches to guide clients toward healing and achieving their personal goals.
During the first session, my approach is person-centered, creating a safe space and, an empathetic and accepting environment. The first session is about building rapport and addressing any thoughts or concerns related to the therapeutic process. Lastly, utilizing active listening to assist the client with identifying current or past life obstacles. Every client is different, I prefer for the client to lead the session by sharing their perspective, and past or current barriers, to identify the most appropriate treatment approach.
I have over a decade of experience working in crisis and trauma. I have seven years of experience working directly with adolescents, adults, couples, and providing group therapy. I believe to be an effective therapist; it is important the therapist continues to do their own healing and inner work.
Over the years, I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults, young adults, couples, and adolescents who may be dealing with life’s obstacles and various social pressures. These challenges often present as anxiety, depression, stress, or trauma. During the therapeutic process, I support clients in navigating each phase of treatment to help them develop new insights, self-awareness, and effective coping strategies. These tools empower clients to manage their lives and social pressures with greater confidence and inner strength.
