My name is Ariel Wilcoxen. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) based in Southern California, and I work with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults, couples, families, and adolescents. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma. My theoretical orientation draws from Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Adlerian theory, and Transactional Analysis. I also have experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Reality Therapy, and several other evidence-based approaches to guide clients toward healing and achieving their personal goals.
During the first session, my approach is person-centered, with an emphasis on creating a safe, empathetic, and accepting environment. We will focus on building rapport, addressing any questions or concerns about the therapeutic process, and exploring what has brought you to therapy. Through active listening, I will support you in identifying current or past obstacles that may be impacting your life. Because every client is different, I encourage you to lead by sharing your perspective, experiences, and concerns at a pace that feels comfortable. Together, we will begin identifying your needs, goals, and the therapeutic approach that may best support you.
One of my strengths as a therapist is helping clients look beyond what is happening on the surface and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. I help clients explore connections between past experiences, attachment patterns, inner dialogue, emotional responses, and patterns within relationships. My approach balances insight with practical strategies while allowing each client’s individual experiences and perspective to guide the process. I also believe in gently challenging clients to consider new perspectives while creating space for self-compassion, growth, and meaningful change.
I enjoy working with adults, young adults, adolescents, and couples who may be navigating anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, or concerns related to confidence and self-worth. Much of my work focuses on helping clients explore and better understand their inner dialogue, recognize patterns that may be contributing to feeling stuck, and develop greater self-awareness. Therapy can be a space to better understand yourself, strengthen your confidence, and develop the tools needed to navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity and inner strength.
