Hi, I’m Davina Porter, LCSW, a licensed psychotherapist with over 10 years of experience supporting children, teens, and adults. My practice offers a warm, nonjudgmental space to work through anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the experiences that may leave you feeling stuck. I use a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach and tailor therapy to meet you where you are while helping you move toward meaningful, lasting change.

First session

In your first session, you can expect a warm, supportive, and collaborative space where you can share what brings you to therapy at your own pace. Together, we’ll begin identifying the concerns, patterns, or goals you’d like to explore and talk about your experiences, strengths, and hopes for change. We’ll also start considering how your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and mind-body connection may be affecting your well-being. You’ll leave with a clearer sense of direction, an initial understanding of how we might work together, and practical next steps tailored to your needs.

Strengths

I bring warmth, authenticity, curiosity, and clinical experience into every session. One of my greatest strengths is my ability to connect with people across different ages, backgrounds, and stages of life while creating space for both vulnerability and honest reflection. My approach stands out because I don’t believe therapy should feel one-size-fits-all—I integrate different therapeutic techniques, mindfulness, and mind-body practices based on what resonates with each client. I balance compassion with gentle challenge, helping clients not only understand themselves more deeply but also put that insight into action.

Ideal clients

My ideal clients are people who are ready to better understand themselves, work through challenges, and create meaningful change in their lives. They may be navigating anxiety, stress, relationship concerns, life transitions, low self-esteem, or patterns that no longer serve them. I work well with clients who are curious about their experiences, open to self-reflection, and willing to explore both their thoughts and their mind-body connection. Together, we can build greater self-awareness, develop practical coping tools, and move toward a life that feels more balanced, authentic, and aligned with their goals.

Treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

I use a trauma-informed approach by recognizing that past experiences can shape how we think, feel, respond, and connect with others—even when we don’t immediately recognize the connection. I prioritize emotional safety, trust, choice, and collaboration, allowing you to share your story at a pace that feels comfortable rather than feeling pressured to disclose before you’re ready. Together, we’ll explore patterns with curiosity instead of judgment while building practical tools to help you feel more grounded, empowered, and in control of your healing process.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use cognitive behavioral therapy by exploring how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence one another. Together, we’ll identify patterns that may be contributing to distress and examine unhelpful or overly critical thoughts with curiosity rather than judgment. We’ll then develop more balanced perspectives and practice practical strategies to support healthier responses, improve coping, and help you feel more confident and in control.

Attachment-based

I use attachment-based therapy by exploring how your early relationships and experiences may influence the way you connect with others, understand yourself, and respond to closeness, conflict, or distance. Together, we’ll identify relationship patterns with curiosity rather than judgment and build greater awareness of your emotional needs, boundaries, and ways of relating. We’ll work toward developing more secure, fulfilling connections while helping you feel more grounded, understood, and confident in your relationships.

Interpersonal

I use interpersonal therapy by focusing on how your current relationships, life transitions, and social experiences affect your emotions and overall well-being. Together, we’ll explore relationship patterns, communication challenges, grief, conflict, and changes in your support system with curiosity rather than judgment. We’ll work on practical ways to express your needs, strengthen your connections, navigate difficult interactions, and build a more supportive and fulfilling life.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy by helping you build practical skills for managing intense emotions, tolerating distress, staying present, and strengthening relationships. Together, we’ll explore patterns that may be contributing to emotional overwhelm or impulsive reactions with curiosity rather than judgment. We’ll work on strategies for mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and effective communication so you can respond to difficult situations with greater balance, confidence, and control.
