Dr Stephanie Tiell
If you've landed here, chances are you're looking for support—for yourself, your child, or someone you love. I'm Dr. Stephanie Tiell, and I want to start by saying: I'm glad you're here. I'm a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) with my Doctorate degree along with specialized training in neurodiversity. I enjoy working to provide thoughtful, individualized psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and young adults navigating the complexities of neurodivergent minds, such as with Autism, ADHD, anxieties, OCD as well as other mental health conditions.
While I am not diagnosed with ADHD, my daughter and husband struggle with this so I know what it can be like in the home.
I believe medication can be a valuable tool, but it's not always the first or only answer. I take a combined approach, integrating psychotherapeutic modalities alongside medication management when warranted. Every person who walks through my (virtual) door receives a comprehensive evaluation and an individualized treatment plan—not a one-size-fits-all prescription. This means we'll talk. We'll collaborate. We'll figure out what actually works for you or your child, together. I understand that neurodivergent brains aren't broken—they're different. My goal isn't to "fix" anyone, but to help my clients understand how their minds work, develop strategies that fit their lives, and thrive on their own terms.
First session
In our first session, I will ask many questions to get to know you including all your history of mental health concerns and any past treatments related to this. I will also ask many questions about your general health and medical history for you and your immediate family as well as your overall basic functioning in life, such as sleep routines, eating habits, activities that you do. We will also discuss current and past academics, work environment, friendships and relationships and how your faith or culture affects you. I want to know all I can about you in our first 1 hour session, but if you are nervous or worried, its ok, we can take our time if you are uncomfortable or hesitant. After this session, we will discuss treatment options and your personal goals or requests in working together. Together, we will then establish a plan of what I can do to help you meet your goals and mental health needs. I typically like to meet on a weekly or every other week scheduled as we start our journey together. I am always responsive to any texts, calls, emails etc in between sessions and try to be as flexible as I can if we need to make changes to appointments.
Strengths
I really enjoy taking my time with clients as I see fit. I do not rush through appointments because of needing to meet quotas or deadlines. I feel that every patient and family I work with deserve to be fully heard and understood so that we can work collaboratively to meet your goals. I meet you wherever you are without any judgement. I like to incorporate my lived experience with mental health to support those I work with. You will see that I am a human, just like you. I struggle with my own issues, including anxiety and working a program of recovery through AA. While I am not diagnosed with ADHD, my daughter and husband struggle with this so I know what it can be like in the home. I understand parenting concerns of children with mental health issues at all ages. When you work with me, you will see that I connect deeply and am authentic in who I am. I would love the chance to help you own your journey
Ideal clients
I see clients ages 6 and up, with a particular focus on young people and their families as well as young adults as you are making transitions from high school, college and your careers. My areas of emphasis include: ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety, OCD, Tic disorders, as well as other neurodevelopmental and mental health concerns. I work with you to provide recommendations that we mutually agree upon and can work towards, including medication usage, different therapy skills and interventions. In our working relationship we will discuss and make decisions together. I am not going to tell you to "take a pill and see you in a month or two" We are going to meet regularly and frequently to monitor for effectiveness and potential side effects if we decide to use medications. You can expect a significant amount of support, empowerment, validation and understanding when working with me. No one exists in isolation, and neither should their care. I work collaboratively with other members of your care team—therapists, primary care providers, schools, and other specialists—to ensure everyone is on the same page and working toward the same goals. I also welcome involvement from a client's identified support system. For children and adolescents, this often means parents and siblings; for others, it might be a partner, close friend, or another trusted person. These supporters can offer valuable insight and play an important role in treatment. To be clear, this isn't group therapy—sessions remain focused on the individual client—but I believe that when the people who matter most are informed and involved, outcomes are better for everyone.
