Hello! My name is Jacqueline. I am a certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I have been a nurse since 2009 and a psychiatric nurse practitioner since 2022. The majority of clients I serve are adult and geriatric. Outside of serving my patients, I am a mother of 3 children and we enjoy going to church, sporting events, and the gym. I look forward to working with you and your loved ones to support your overall wellness, while helping you reach your mental health goals.

First session

During a first appointment with me as your psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP), the focus is usually on getting to know you, understanding your concerns, and creating an initial treatment plan with you. This will include discussing your mental health concerns, completing a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, discussing your lifestyle and social history, completing a safety assessment, discuss diagnosis and treatment recommendations, and work together to build an individual treatment plan that fits your goals and needs. Tips to Prepare for the first assessment: It can help to bring: -A list of your current medications and supplements -Any previous mental health records, if available -A list of symptoms and when they started -Questions you'd like to ask

Strengths

I think its important to combine my clinical experience in a patient centered care approach along with providing empathy and compassion, building trust with reliability and consistency , providing strong listening skills, and having holistic perspective while working towards your mental health goals.

Ideal clients

An ideal adult or geriatric patient for a psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP) is someone who is seeking support for their mental health and is willing to participate in a collaborative treatment process. While PMHNPs care for people with a wide range of needs, a typical patient profile might include: Adult Patient Age 18 years or older. Experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, insomnia, or other mental health conditions. Interested in medication management, therapy, or a combination of both. Open to discussing symptoms, treatment goals, and lifestyle factors that affect mental health. Willing to attend follow-up appointments and monitor progress. Geriatric Patient Age 65 years or older. Experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, sleep disturbances, cognitive concerns, or behavioral symptoms related to dementia. Managing mental health conditions alongside chronic medical illnesses. May need medication adjustments to minimize side effects and interactions with other prescriptions. Benefits from a holistic approach that considers physical health, cognition, mobility, social support, and quality of life.

Treatment methods

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to what's happening right now, on purpose and without judging yourself. Instead of getting caught up in worries about the future or replaying the past, you learn to notice your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations and let them come and go without reacting automatically." How to practice mindfulness: Find a comfortable place to sit. Focus your attention on your breathing. Notice the feeling of the air moving in and out. If your mind wanders—which it naturally will—gently notice where it went and bring your attention back to your breath without criticizing yourself. Continue for 3–5 minutes to start, gradually increasing to 10–20 minutes if it feels helpful. You can also use mindfulness during everyday activities: Notice the taste and texture of food while eating. Pay attention to the feeling of your feet touching the ground while walking. Take a few slow, deep breaths before responding to a stressful situation. How mindfulness can help "Mindfulness doesn't make stress or difficult emotions disappear, but it can help you respond to them differently. With regular practice, many people find they feel less overwhelmed, improve their focus, reduce anxiety, and become more aware of early signs of stress."
