New to Grow
Hello! My name is Laura Mitchell and I am a licensed clinical social worker. Prior to becoming a social worker, I was an elementary and special education teacher. I have always had a strong passion for helping others in some capacity. I have experience in working with children, adolescents and adults, with a focus on children and adolescents with special needs. I value the importance of building strong rapport with my clients throughout the entire therapeutic relationship. We will work together to identify the areas that you want to improve on and develop meaningful and attainable goals to reach your greatest potential. I enjoy helping individuals with their aspirations and celebrate growth no matter how big or small! When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my two daughters, husband and lab mix, riding bikes, playing board games, going to the beach, exercising, camping, and traveling to new places near and far!
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our first session will include screening questions, the client sharing their primary concerns and ideas for goals that they would like to work on, and rapport building. The following session will consist of developing a treatment plan with individualized goals based on the information provided in the first session.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My approach is to meet the client where they are at and to do so in a compassionate and supportive manner. We will work towards building you a comfortable, happy and meaningful life but we will always work at the pace that feels right for you. I will work with you to identify your strengths and capitalize on those strengths as you tackle the areas of difficulty. We will work through your concerns with a cognitive behavioral and strengths based lense. Clients like that I am a good listener, thorough, patient, calming, collaborative, supportive and non-judgmental.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I am experienced in working with children and adolescents. I have a strong background in working with children and adolescents with Intellectual Disability and Autism. I have experience in helping clients in the areas of emotions, coping skills, self-esteem, anxiety, life transitions, behavioral concerns, and social skills.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) focuses on the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The way we think about something affects how we feel and respond. In therapy, we will work together to identify unhelpful thought patterns, figure out how accurate they are, and experiment new ways of thinking and behaving that will reduce distress and help you cope more effectively.
