About me

"Life is all about how we handle plan B" (Suzy Toronto) I love this quote! This is what all of us struggle with. It is difficult to cope with situations, relationships, and our health when things do not go how we had planned. I believe counseling can help with life's challenges to find healthy ways to adapt. I work with adults in the areas of depression, anxiety, and bereavement. I enjoy helping clients build coping skills to deal with the stressors and conditions that impact their growth and happiness. My counseling approach is warm and inclusive, sprinkled with some humor, to help people work through the distress that we experience in life.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session is typically an information gathering session about your personal history, areas of concern you have and what your main goals are for therapy. At the end of the first session, we will develop goals for your treatment plan and how often we will meet as well as establish the treatment approach to meet those goals. I may also send you information to review before our next session to begin work on your goals.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My practice involves a special emphasis on maternal health, addressing reproductive challenges, pregnancy loss, and postpartum depression, anxiety and adjustment. I am a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional through Postpartum Support International. Learning strategies to cope with the fears that appear during a subsequent pregnancy after a loss is also a specialty of my practice. I co-facilitated a perinatal loss group in Brevard County for over eight years and continue to connect couples with perinatal support in their community.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Adults only. Bereavement, depression and anxiety. Perinatal mental health including infertility, pregnancy loss and postpartum depression and anxiety.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been using CBT for over 30 years to help clients understand how their thoughts impact their mood and subsequently their behavior. I find the majority of clients benefit from applying the principles of CBT in their daily life.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I have been using ACT as a treatment approach for 10 years or more. I find this approach in counseling helps people approach difficulties in life rather than avoiding which ultimately reduces anxiety and helps us walk through and tolerate distress in our daily lives. This treatment approach works well with CBT and exposure response prevention therapy.

Her years of experience. After the first session I knew she was a therapist to assist with my issues.

I started with Candace as a way to help me work through my infertility struggles and prepare for IVF. She has helped me to reframe my thinking, and it is certainly a less dark and stressful experience than previously. She is kind and offers useful feedback. More than anything she is very reassuring and makes me feel supported during this time.
