New to Grow
Hi, I’m Mashaal Khan, LMFT. I work with individuals across all stages of life who find themselves at a crossroads—seeking clarity, relief, or a deeper connection to themselves. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, life transitions, or the quiet weight of relationship challenges, therapy becomes a space to gently untangle what feels overwhelming. My approach is both grounded and intuitive, blending evidence-based practices like CBT and DBT with a deeper, reflective process. Together, we slow things down—listening closely to your inner world, making sense of patterns, and creating space for something new to emerge. This is a place where you are met with care, discretion, and intention. A place to feel understood, to restore balance, and to move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and ease.
Your first session is a space to begin—gently, without pressure. We’ll take time to get to know each other, explore what’s bringing you in, and talk through any questions or hopes you may have for therapy. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as feels comfortable. I’ll ask some thoughtful questions to better understand your experiences, patterns, and what support might look like for you. Together, we’ll begin to identify initial goals and outline a direction that feels aligned with your needs. Most importantly, this first meeting is about creating a sense of ease and trust—so you can feel supported, understood, and confident in moving forward.
My greatest strength as a therapist is my ability to create a space that feels both deeply attuned and intentionally structured. I balance warmth and presence with a clear, evidence-based approach, so clients feel supported emotionally while also guided toward real, measurable change. What often stands out about my work is how I integrate insight with practical tools. I draw from CBT and DBT to help clients understand their patterns, regulate emotions, and build sustainable coping strategies, while also staying curious about the deeper emotional themes beneath their experiences. Clients often experience my approach as grounding and clarifying—they feel understood, but also gently challenged to grow. My goal is not only symptom relief, but helping clients develop a more resilient, connected, and intentional way of living.
My ideal clients are motivated young adults who are open to self-reflection and actively looking to make meaningful changes in their lives. I work especially well with individuals navigating anxiety, life transitions, identity development, and relationship challenges. Many of them feel stuck in patterns like overthinking, self-doubt, or emotional overwhelm, and are ready to better understand themselves while building practical coping skills. I’m best positioned to support clients who are engaged in the process and willing to practice skills outside of sessions. I enjoy combining insight with actionable strategies, helping clients gain clarity, build confidence, and develop tools they can use to manage challenges more effectively in their day-to-day lives.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have solid experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as one of my primary treatment modalities. My approach to CBT is collaborative, structured, and tailored to each client’s needs. I typically start by helping clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, using psychoeducation to build insight and normalize their experiences. In practice, I work with clients to identify maladaptive thought patterns—such as cognitive distortions—and then guide them in challenging and reframing those thoughts into more balanced, realistic ones. I often incorporate tools like thought records, behavioral activation, and exposure techniques when appropriate, especially for clients dealing with anxiety or depression. I also focus heavily on skill-building, helping clients develop coping strategies they can apply outside of sessions. For example, I might teach grounding techniques, problem-solving skills, or ways to manage rumination. I like to assign between-session practice to reinforce these skills and promote real-life application. At the same time, I stay flexible in my approach. While CBT provides a strong framework, I integrate elements from other modalities when needed—such as incorporating mindfulness or exploring underlying patterns if a client would benefit from a more insight-oriented lens. Overall, I find CBT to be effective because it empowers clients with practical tools, promotes measurable progress, and helps them feel more in control of their thoughts and behaviors.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I have experience using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), particularly with clients who struggle with emotional dysregulation, anxiety, or interpersonal difficulties. I incorporate core DBT skills such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness into my work. In practice, I help clients build awareness of their emotional responses while also developing concrete coping strategies to manage distress and reduce impulsive behaviors. I emphasize validation alongside change—helping clients feel understood while also working toward healthier patterns. I often assign skills practice between sessions to reinforce learning and support real-life application.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
In my work with clients, I integrate Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) with a humanistic approach to create a supportive, strengths-based therapeutic environment. Rather than focusing heavily on problems or past difficulties, I help clients identify their existing strengths, resources, and previous successes, and build on what is already working in their lives. Through collaborative conversations, I use solution-focused questions such as the “miracle question” and scaling techniques to help clients clarify their goals and envision meaningful change. At the same time, my humanistic approach emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness, ensuring that clients feel deeply heard, respected, and accepted. This combination encourages clients to take an active role in their own growth, fostering hope, self-efficacy, and a sense of empowerment as they move toward their preferred future.
