About me

I’m Edward Settles, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Co-founder of Next Door Counseling. I provide a welcoming and judgment free environment for adults and couples working through anxiety, relationship concerns, substance use, men’s issues, and major life transitions. My approach combines cognitive behavioral therapy with person-centered care, honest conversation, and practical strategies that can be applied in everyday life. I believe therapy should feel collaborative and relatable, allowing you to better understand yourself, build on your strengths, and make meaningful, lasting changes.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During our first session, we’ll take time to get to know one another and discuss what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask about your current concerns, relevant history, strengths, and what you hope to gain from the process. You can share at your own pace, there is no pressure to disclose everything at once. Together, we’ll identify your goals and begin creating a practical plan that fits your needs. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, supported, and clear about our next steps.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I bring warmth, honesty, and a genuine ability to connect with people from different backgrounds. My approach is supportive but direct. I will listen without judgment while also helping you recognize patterns, challenge unhelpful thoughts, and take meaningful steps forward. I combine clinical experience with practical strategies, humor when appropriate, and respect for each client’s individual story. My goal is to create a space where you can feel comfortable being yourself while doing the work necessary for lasting change.

In our sessions, CBT isn't just a rigid set of worksheets; it is a dynamic tool we use to explore how your current patterns of thinking might be
