Hello! I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, evidenced-based natural alternatives and supplements, genetic and laboratory testing, and home delivery of medication.

Since then, I have enjoyed 25 years of psychiatric nursing experience providing compassionate care.

I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Nursing and a Post-master’s specialty as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Washburn University. I was raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, and while attending my undergraduate nursing program at UNC Wilmington, I learned I wanted to dedicate my career to mental healthcare. Since then, I have enjoyed 25 years of psychiatric nursing experience providing compassionate care.

First session

Our first meeting will be a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation (around 60 minutes). A psychiatric evaluation is important to diagnose problems that will be the target for treatment. We will review your medical and psychiatric history and other relevant information. It is important to rule out any physical conditions that may be causing your symptoms. My goal is to provide a safe place to get to know you, formulate a diagnosis and together, create a plan individualized to your needs.

Strengths

Above all, I value the therapeutic relationship. My friendly, down-to-earth demeanor will put you at ease and allow us to progress more efficiently in reaching your goals. We will both value our alliance while leveraging my extensive experience in the field. My background includes working in the inpatient psychiatric setting, where I participated in and led research to improve outcomes published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. I consult nationally and am a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.

Ideal clients

I believe in collaboration, self-efficacy, and the therapeutic alliance. My ideal patients are ready to partner for peace of mind, are comfortable with virtual visits and enjoy a knowledgeable, strong, empathetic provider who puts them and their unique circumstances at the center of care.

Treatment methods

I felt relief after talking to Amanda. I was heard, and acknowledged! I was nervous at the start but I ease up after she spoke. I love that there is a care plan, and that my opinions were considered. I felt she cared for me, and it wasn’t just fake kindness. She is very knowledgeable and kind; the perfect balance you want from a provider.

Dr. McGill was fantastic. She was warm, friendly, caring, and determined to understand where I was coming from and what I was looking to address. She immediately had suggestions to help me, but acknowledged that we could tweak things to find the best solution. She was straightforward and educational, but also compassionate and understanding. I look forward to continuing to work with her.
