Hello! I have been a therapist for almost 15 years and have worked with children, teens, individuals, and families. I live in northern California and have been in private practice for 5 years. I am told I am friendly, I laugh when things are funny (never at you and always with you!), and take my role seriously. I have worked in residential treatment, psychiatric care, family courts, and with individuals who have been incarcerated. My wide range of experience has allowed me to see all different types of people and help them all the same. I currently work with clients who are children, teens, and adults. They experience a wide range of challenges and are mid to higher functioning.
The first session with me is to establish/start the process of what is the considered the most important aspect of the relationship: rapport and trust. A general history is taken, along with intake documents being reviewed prior to session, and supportive questions are asked. I go at the pace of buy clients and will never ask a person to share anything they are not wanting or ready to share. I like to provide a space where a client can finish and know that I can contain their thoughts, feelings, and emotions for the next session.
My strengths tend to lean toward a client focused approach: prioritizing your needs, goals, and well-being. I have many clients that I have worked with for years that I don't hear from for some time and then pop back into session for a refresher. I believe that speaks to the healthy relationship I am able to build with my clients and the trust that is so important in therapy. I utilize evidenced based interventions that are grounded in science and research.
I work well with everyone but my main experience is with teens and individual adults. My training and additional education has positioned me to work with a ride range of challenges and do not refer out unless a client is seeking eating disorder treatment only. I am able to address multiple concerns a client may have and can do so without judgement. I listen closely to what my client's have to say and offer feedback and insights. Therapy is a joint venture between a therapist and client, but you are in charge of the decisions and choices you make. Therapy goals depend solely on what we agree upon and will always be the center of focus.
