Jennifer Horne

LPC20 years of experience

Hi, I’m a LCPC based in Maryland. I received my Master’s degree from Towson University and have been practicing for over 20 years. I have experience as working with children and adults of all ages and backgrounds, providing individual and family therapy in a variety of settings.

Your journey forward starts with a single conversation. Ready for change?

My approach emphasizes collaboratively developing therapy goals and continually evaluating the effectiveness of the therapeutic approach. I want to inspire you to be the best you can be. Life is full of challenges and your perspective on how you face them can make the difference in your ability to meet your full potential. I strive to create a therapeutic environment in which you can feel safe to be fully authentic. Bringing empathy and authenticity, I help clients appreciate their unique abilities and enhance their self-esteem to empower each person in living the life they have dreamed about.

Strengths

My strengths include my compassion, empathy, authenticity, open-mindedness, nonjudgmental attitude, and ability to hold space and listen well. I have over 20 years of experience providing treatment in numerous settings. Therapy looks different for everyone so I tailor my approach to meet clients where they currently are in their journey towards growth. My strength lies in helping clients make meaningful connections between past experiences and present struggles and guiding them towards healing, self-compassion, and lasting change. I meet clients where they are, helping them move forward with clarity and confidence.

Ideal clients

My ideal clients are ready to make positive changes in their lives, even if they don't know what that looks like yet. They might feel stressed, overwhelmed, or trapped in their current situation, but are hopeful that things can improve. They may be dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, balancing work with family life, navigating divorce and blended families, grief, school stress, or other life challenges. Whatever problems they face, they are motivated to take steps, however small they may be, and at a pace they are comfortable with, to feel better. I love working with anyone who has a sincere desire to improve some aspect of their life. Someone who is eager to learn -- both about themselves and about new tools that could help them achieve changes they're seeking. If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or anxious, I'd love to explore that with you, and see where it leads.

Treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

This approach is based on the fundamental premise that pain, grief, disappointment, illness, and anxiety are inevitable features of human life. And in ACT, our goal is to **adapt** to these types of challenges by developing greater psychological flexibility, rather than engaging in counterproductive attempts to eliminate or suppress undesirable experiences. Once they have learned them, clients often instinctively return to the key ideas in ACT, because of their simplicity and effectiveness.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT techniques to help clients identify patterns of thinking that contribute to anxiety, depression, or feelings of being stuck. We will identify recurring thought patterns that are creating issues in your life, challenge negative or distorted thoughts, and replace them with more balanced and realistic thoughts. I also utilize and teach other CBT techniques including relaxation exercises and mindfulness. Together, we work on reframing unhelpful thoughts, setting achievable goals, and developing practical strategies to navigate challenges. My experience shows that blending CBT with a supportive, person-centered approach helps clients take actionable steps toward meaningful change while feeling understood and supported.

Trauma-Informed Care

With this approach, I recognize how past trauma can shape thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I focus on creating a safe and supportive environment, helping clients feel empowered and understood. I guide clients in understanding their experiences and developing strategies to cope, heal, and build resilience, all while respecting their boundaries and readiness to engage with difficult topics.

Strength-Based

Using a strength-based approach, I assist clients in recognizing their inherit strengths to hone their coping skills, increase resilience, and enhance self-esteem. My practice focuses on not only the client, but also the client's environment and how it could be contribute to their issues. I get to know my clients and tailor strategies to fit each individual client best. I believe every client has the ability to grow as individual and reach the goals that they set for themselves. In conjunction with principles from a strength-based approach, I employ skilled techniques from Cognitive-behavioral therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness training.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use person-centered therapy to create a safe, non-judgmental space for you to share your story, which is the foundation of treatment. I provide empathy and unconditional positive regard to form a strong therapeutic alliance where you feel supported and fully accepted for who you are. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts and emotions. I meet clients where they are, checking in on what feels heavy in the moment and letting processing happen at a pace that feels right for them. This creates trust and allows for deeper exploration when the client is ready.
