Hi, my name is Norma Inez (e-nez), but I like to go by my middle name Inez. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) practicing in California. I received my graduate degree (M.A. in Couples & Family Therapy) from Alliant International University in 2018 and have been practicing for 7 years. I help young adults improve their self esteem by challenging and adjusting their negative core beliefs, learn how to detach from their unwanted thoughts, and create a supportive self care practice.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, I will try to learn as much as I can about your challenges, asking you questions about your background, medical history, and social history. After we will discuss your goals for therapy and develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a provider is being easy to talk to and compassionately direct. I can provide helpful feedback to assist clients in making progress in a way that is validating.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with people who are motivated to change but don't know where to get started. They enjoy structure, worksheets, and homework.

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

As a marriage and family therapist, I was trained on utilizing attachment theory as my framework. I use it to assist client's in identifying their attachment history, injuries, and style, as well as how to develop a more secure attachment and improve their relationships.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

In my first years of experience as a practicum student, I was supervised under a DBT trained therapist and even assisted running a DBT group. I use a lot of the skills from DBT to help clients regulate their emotions, tolerate and cope from emotional distress, and even accept difficulty life situations by using radical acceptance.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I was trained in utilizing CBT in graduate school through coursework and have used it since I started practicing. I use CBT to help client's identify their negative beliefs, change their thinking patterns, and adjust their beliefs to ultimately change their behavior.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I learned about ACT during my first position out of graduate school, as I was under the supervision of a psychologist that was trained in ACT. I like using ACT to help clients detach from their unhelpful thoughts or emotions, identify their values, and live more in alignment with their goals.
