First session

During our first session, my goal is to get to know you, understand your concerns, and learn what brought you in for care. We will review your symptoms, medical and mental health history, current medications, lifestyle, stressors, strengths, and treatment goals in a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment. I take time to listen, answer questions, and work collaboratively with you to develop a personalized treatment plan. This may include medication management, supportive therapy, CBT-informed strategies, mindfulness-based coping skills, lifestyle recommendations, or referrals when appropriate. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, respected, and supported, with a clearer understanding of your treatment options and the next steps toward improved emotional wellness and daily functioning.

Strengths

I bring a compassionate, collaborative, and whole-person approach to every session. As a dual board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner, I consider both emotional and physical health when developing a treatment plan. This allows me to look beyond symptoms and better understand each client’s overall wellness, lifestyle, medical history, stressors, and personal goals. My approach stands out because I combine psychiatric medication management with supportive therapy, CBT-informed strategies, mindfulness-based coping skills, psychoeducation, and culturally sensitive care. I strive to create a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered. I am patient-centered, practical, and goal-focused. I work with clients to build insight, improve coping skills, strengthen emotional resilience, and create realistic steps toward stability, healing, and long-term mental wellness.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is someone who is seeking compassionate, respectful, and individualized mental health care in a safe and supportive environment. I am best positioned to serve children, adolescents, adults, and families who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood changes, stress, trauma-related symptoms, sleep difficulties, emotional regulation, life transitions, or challenges with focus and daily functioning. I work well with clients who want to better understand their symptoms, build healthier coping skills, improve self-confidence, strengthen relationships, and feel more balanced in their personal, school, work, or family life. I also support clients who may feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, stuck, or unsure where to begin, and I help them take practical steps toward emotional wellness. My approach is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. I combine psychiatric medication management, supportive therapy, CBT, mindfulness-based strategies, psychoeducation, and culturally sensitive care to create a treatment plan that fits each person’s needs and goals. My goal is to help clients feel heard, supported, and empowered while working toward stability, healing, and long-term mental wellness.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help patients identify how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. In my practice, CBT is used in a supportive, practical, and goal-focused way to help patients recognize negative thought patterns, improve emotional regulation, reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms, and develop healthier coping strategies. I work with patients to challenge unhelpful beliefs, improve problem-solving skills, build structure, and create realistic behavioral changes that support daily functioning. CBT may include psychoeducation, thought reframing, coping-skills training, journaling, relaxation techniques, sleep hygiene, mindfulness strategies, and homework assignments between sessions. When appropriate, I combine CBT with medication management to support a whole-person treatment approach. My goal is to help patients gain insight, improve self-confidence, strengthen coping skills, and make meaningful progress in their personal, school, work, and relationship functioning.

Supportive

I use supportive therapy to provide patients with a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental space to discuss their concerns, stressors, symptoms, and life challenges. My approach focuses on building trust, strengthening coping skills, improving emotional resilience, and helping patients feel heard and supported throughout treatment. In my practice, supportive therapy may include active listening, validation, encouragement, psychoeducation, problem-solving, stress-management techniques, and guidance with healthy coping strategies. I help patients identify their strengths, improve insight, manage anxiety or depressive symptoms, and navigate personal, family, school, work, or relationship difficulties. Supportive therapy is often integrated with medication management when appropriate. My goal is to help patients feel emotionally supported, improve daily functioning, maintain stability, and work toward meaningful progress in their overall mental health and well-being.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I use Mindfulness-Based Therapy to help patients become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and stress responses in the present moment without judgment. In my practice, mindfulness is used to support emotional regulation, reduce anxiety, improve focus, decrease rumination, and help patients respond to stress in a healthier way. This approach may include breathing exercises, grounding techniques, guided relaxation, body awareness, meditation practices, mindful journaling, and coping skills that patients can use in daily life. I also help patients recognize automatic thoughts and emotional triggers so they can pause, reflect, and respond more intentionally rather than reacting impulsively. When appropriate, I integrate mindfulness-based strategies with medication management, CBT, and supportive therapy. My goal is to help patients build calm, improve self-awareness, strengthen coping skills, and develop healthier habits that support long-term mental wellness.

Multicultural

I use a multicultural approach to provide care that respects each patient’s unique background, values, identity, beliefs, family structure, language, and lived experiences. In my practice, I recognize that culture can influence how patients understand mental health, express symptoms, cope with stress, seek support, and make treatment decisions. I strive to create a safe, inclusive, and nonjudgmental environment where patients feel respected and understood. This may include exploring cultural traditions, family expectations, spirituality, community support, immigration-related stressors, generational differences, stigma, and social factors that may affect mental health and treatment engagement. When appropriate, I integrate culturally sensitive psychoeducation, supportive therapy, CBT, mindfulness-based strategies, and medication management. My goal is to provide individualized care that honors the patient’s identity, improves trust, supports emotional wellness, and helps each patient reach meaningful goals in a way that aligns with their values and life circumstances.

Gender-affirming therapy

I use gender-affirming therapy to provide a safe, respectful, and supportive space for individuals to explore and discuss their gender identity, expression, emotions, relationships, and life experiences without judgment. My approach is centered on respect, dignity, compassion, and individualized care. In my practice, gender-affirming therapy may include emotional support, identity exploration, coping-skills development, psychoeducation, stress management, support with anxiety or depression, family or relationship concerns, and guidance in navigating social, school, work, or community challenges. I also recognize the impact that stigma, discrimination, rejection, trauma, and lack of support can have on mental health. When appropriate, I integrate supportive therapy, CBT, mindfulness-based strategies, and medication management to help patients improve emotional wellness, self-confidence, resilience, and daily functioning. My goal is to help each patient feel seen, respected, and supported while working toward mental health goals that align with their identity, values, and overall well-being.
