I have over 21 years of professional experience in the healthcare field. My background includes roles as a pharmacy tech, EMT, Corpsman with the USMC, trauma instructor, ICU nurse, nursing home supervisor, corrections nurse, & psychiatric nurse. These experiences have shaped my commitment to delivering compassionate & evidence-based care. As a lifelong learner, my focus is on continued growth and serving the community as best as possible. My bachelor's degree in nursing was earned at the University of Alabama. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (MSN, PMHNP) from Walden University. Outside of work, I enjoy woodworking and spending time with my wife & three children.
At present, I only prescribe narcotics in the states of Colorado, Idaho, & Oregon. I also do not complete FMLA or Nexus letters. I collect background information & we discuss a medication management plan together. Each recommendation is unique to each patient.
I have years of practice treating PTSD, bipolar, dementia, eating disorders, schizophrenia, autism, depression, anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, personality disorders, and serving the LGBTQIA+ & BIPOC communities. Each patient is educated as to why their specific recommendations are unique to their needs and background.
I prioritize active listening and thoughtful questioning to ensure my patients receive high-quality care that utilizes the most recent advancements in medicine. I am committed to eliminating bias and disparities in mental health. There is no ideal patient or miracle cure. Each patient has a unique personality, lifestyle, background, diagnosis, symptom presentation, and set of treatment goals. The purpose of medication is to eliminate or lower symptoms so patients can improve their daily functioning.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT therapists emphasize what is going on in the person’s current life, rather than what has led up to their difficulties. A certain amount of information about one’s history is needed, but the focus is primarily on moving forward in time to develop more effective ways of coping with life.
Multicultural
Multicultural therapy involves recognizing & addressing how a client's racial, ethnic, sexual, spiritual, socioeconomic, and other cultural factors shape their experiences, mental health, and challenges. It moves beyond traditional approaches by acknowledging the impact of cultural diversity, including potential discrimination and the power dynamics that affect a client's well-being and their relationship with therapy itself. The goal is to provide a safe, respectful environment where clients can discuss their experiences from their unique cultural perspective, leading to more equitable and effective treatment. Key principles include cultural awareness, cultural knowledge, cultural sensitivity, & intersectionality.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered, evidence-based counseling approach that aims to help individuals explore and resolve ambivalence about making positive changes in their lives. The goals are to increase motivation to change, assist with developing a sense of self-efficacy, reduce ambivalence & resistance, & provide support in making sustainable behavioral changes.
