New to Grow
I’m Mayra, a first-generation Latina and a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), and I’ve been helping people grow and heal since 2022. I work with all ages and a range of challenges, from everyday struggles to moderate or severe concerns. I specialize in CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, family systems, and couples therapy, focusing on anxiety, depression, generational patterns, self-growth, and navigating life’s changes. What sets my approach apart is that I meet clients exactly where they are, I take things seriously when needed, share a laugh when it helps, and stay committed to helping you work through whatever challenges you’re facing. I create a safe, strengths-based space where you can be yourself, reflect, and grow. You’ll get practical tools, skills, and guidance to feel confident, independent, and empowered to handle life on your own. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, spending time with my family, or just relaxing on my couch watching my favorite shows and movies. I’m passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families feel heard, supported, and empowered to navigate life’s challenges together.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our first session is really about getting to know you and creating a space that feels safe and low pressure. There’s no rush to share everything and no expectation to dive deep right away. We’ll move at your pace and talk about what feels comfortable for you, why you decided to try therapy, and what you’re hoping to get out of it. I’ll explain how I work, answer any questions you have, and together we’ll figure out what taking the next step looks like — at your rate, not anyone else’s.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
What stands out about my approach is that I balance structure with real human connection. I provide guidance and consistency, but I stay flexible and meet clients where they are. I want people to feel safe, respected, and understood, because that’s when real progress happens. I take a practical, strengths-based approach. We’ll talk through patterns, emotions, and behaviors, but I focus on tools you can actually use in your everyday life, like managing stress, setting boundaries, or grounding yourself, so therapy doesn’t just stay in the room. The results I see are people gaining more insight, feeling more in control of their emotions, and building confidence to advocate for themselves. Over time, clients often become more consistent, engaged, and able to handle life’s challenges with greater stability and independence.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I work best with clients who feel overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, or unsure how to open up, but are still willing to give therapy a try. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, family or relationship challenges, and life transitions, often while carrying first-generation or cultural pressures. I especially connect with women, parents, and young people who want practical tools, honest conversations, and a supportive space that feels real and judgment-free. If you’re nervous, guarded, or not sure where to start, but you’re showing up anyway , we’ll take things at your pace and figure it out together.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress. Sessions focus on increasing insight into the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, while building practical coping strategies. CBT interventions are tailored to the client’s goals and are used to promote skill-building, emotional regulation, and improved daily functioning.
Trauma-Focused CBT
I use Trauma-Focused CBT to support clients in processing trauma in a structured, safe, and client-centered manner. Treatment focuses on reducing trauma-related symptoms by increasing emotional regulation, grounding skills, and cognitive processing of traumatic experiences. Interventions are paced according to the client’s readiness and emphasize stabilization, safety, and empowerment.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I incorporate Solution-Focused Brief Treatment to help clients identify strengths, resources, and achievable goals. Sessions emphasize present-focused problem solving, highlighting what is working and how to build upon existing coping strategies. This approach supports clients in making meaningful changes while fostering hope, motivation, and self-efficacy.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I utilize DBT-informed interventions to support clients in developing skills related to emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. This approach is particularly helpful for clients experiencing mood instability, impulsivity, or difficulty managing intense emotions. Skills are introduced in a practical and structured manner to support safety, stability, and long-term coping.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing to enhance client engagement and support behavior change by exploring ambivalence in a nonjudgmental and collaborative way. This approach helps clients clarify their values, increase insight into readiness for change, and strengthen intrinsic motivation. MI is integrated throughout treatment to support autonomy, goal-setting, and sustained progress.
