Trista Maccini

LICSW (she/her)15 years of experience

I am a licensed clinical social worker in MA and RI with a diverse work history in hospice care, medical social work, mental health, maternal-child health, and veterans. My work has allowed me to work alongside individuals during some of life's most meaningful and vulnerable moments from navigating serious illness and end of life care to adjusting to new parenthood, moving across the country, managing mental health challenges, and processing the unique experiences of military service. My approach is rooted in evidence-based practices like CBT and DBT, tailored to your unique needs. and pace. My expertise is with grief, transition, identity shifts and uncertainty.

First session

In our first session I hope to get to know more about you. I hope to find out what brought you to therapy to include whether you have had therapy services in the past. We will talk about what the process may look like as we work together to include some logistics on attendance etc. I hope to get an idea of what your goal is for therapy with me overall and I will share about me and my approach to therapy. It is my hope that you will feel safe and a sense of trust to be able to move forward together in this therapeutic process.

Strengths

I bring a compassionate and empathetic framework ensuring to work with my clients collaboratively. It is important to me that my clients feel safe, seen and heard without judgement. I like to ensure that my clients have the ability to move at their own pace and take time to celebrate the "little wins" and promote their strengths that helped get them there. I understand many complexities of life through different lived experiences or through my work as a Social Worker. and understand trauma and how it can shape a person. Most importantly, I understand that life is not "one size fits all" so my work with clients is adaptable to meet that individual where they are at with what they need.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is an adult (18+ - to include college age, stay at home parents, caregivers and working professionals) that are navigating different stressors such as; grief/anticipatory grief and loss, parenthood, life transitions, anxiety and stress, depression, relationship issues and more that are looking for therapy as a way to grow and make changes within themselves and their lives.

Origin story

For as long as I can remember I have always had a passion for helping others. In high school I was a peer advocate which was my first experience in a more therapeutic setting within the limits of being a peer advocate. I returned to the path of helping others by graduating with my Master's of Social Work and continuing through the licensure process in order to be able to help others navigate life challenges. I believe that through work and support one can wither most storms.

Ongoing work together

As you work with me beyond the first session the idea is to gain insight, healing and grow through our continued work together.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize CBT as a way to help change automatic thinking and promote behavioral change to enhance overall well-being.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I utilize DBT as way to learn practical skills to help manage stress and stay in the moment.

Trauma-Informed Care

I use trauma informed care to help recognize trauma and it's impact to help promote safety and empowerment.
