Syrlane Albuquerque
I am a compassionate and down-to-earth therapist who believes that healing is possible, even when life feels overwhelming. I bring warmth, curiosity, honesty, and a touch of humor into the therapy room. Because I have personally experienced the life-changing impact of therapy, I understand that growth requires courage, patience, and effort. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where you can feel heard, better understand yourself, recognize your strengths, and move toward meaningful and lasting change.
First session
Our first session will be an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We will talk about what brings you to therapy, what you hope to gain from it, and any concerns or questions you may have. There is no pressure to share everything at once; we will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Together, we will begin identifying your needs and creating goals that feel meaningful and realistic.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths is my ability to remain calm and present when conversations become difficult. I can sit with grief, uncertainty, fear, and complicated emotions without rushing you or trying to offer an easy answer. I will hold space when you need time, listen with genuine curiosity, and gently challenge you when it may help you grow. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and honest. I do not see myself as the expert on your life; instead, I will work alongside you as we explore your experiences, recognize your strengths, and identify practical steps toward the changes you want to make.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are adults navigating grief, anxiety, major life transitions, chronic illness, caregiving, or other emotionally difficult experiences. They may feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or disconnected from themselves but are ready to explore what they are experiencing and work toward meaningful change. They are looking for a warm, down-to-earth therapist who will listen without judgment, respect their pace, gently challenge them when growth requires it, and welcome appropriate humor as part of the healing process.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help you recognize patterns in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that may be keeping you stuck. Together, we can explore these patterns and develop practical strategies that support meaningful change while working at a pace that feels manageable and realistic for you.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard, understood, and comfortable being yourself. Our sessions are collaborative and genuine, with empathy, curiosity, and appropriate humor when it feels natural.
Grief Therapy
Grief is deeply personal, and there is no single “right” way or timeline for experiencing it. I provide a compassionate space to process loss, make room for difficult emotions, and explore how life may look different after loss. Rather than trying to “fix” grief, we work together toward finding ways to carry it while continuing to live meaningfully.
