(they/them)
Deeply passionate about social justice and facilitating and guiding positive change and development in the lives of others, I am thrilled to connect with you as you begin your journey inward. Healing is truly the risk of showing up for yourself and your resistance to the temptation to go back to unsilenced needs, numbing out, disconnection, and erasure. As a Black, non-binary, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 10 years of wide-ranging clinical and field experience, I look forward to tailoring my approach to meet your needs and help you reach your goals.
You can expect your initial session with me to be very patient-centered. We will explore themes of the past, present, and future by exploring how you cope, your symptoms, goals for therapy, expectations, and more. Finding the right therapeutic match can be like trying to find the perfect outfit so we will also determine if we are a good fit based on your needs, and if not, I will guide you in the right direction. When we work together, I will tailor my approach to meet your needs and help you reach your goals. If you feel as though challenges are interfering with your sense of happiness and ability to function to your fullest potential, or if you are ready to alter your current life path, then I am available and able to assist you on your journey towards recovery. I can interact with you in whatever manner you are most comfortable. I find it helpful to participate in video sessions so that we can get to know each other better. But I am also available to you via phone and text if that is more comfortable for you. I know how hard it can be to find a counselor who you feel a connection with and I would be honored to work with you through this stage of your life.
The feedback I receive from clients is that they find me to be innovative, caring, and non-judgmental, and they appreciate that I am responsive, honest, and direct with them. You can expect me to walk with you through whatever difficulties you are facing and help you learn more about yourself and the way you interact with the world. For as long as I have lived, being of service to others has been my personal meditation, a source of creativity, and a significant spiritual transformation. Through my service to others as well as my own transformation, I aligned with my very special calling of psychotherapy and talent of helping folks tackle horrendous social systems that make social change difficult for marginalized and oppressed communities. I believe that through self-reflection, research, and community action, we all can awaken from and reimagine these systems and begin to redesign them.
I have worked with folks across a wide array of presenting concerns, including managing symptoms of anxiety, mood dysregulation, and depression, healing with/from trauma, managing grief and loss, recovery from substance abuse and addiction, chronic illness, & LGBT issues. I work with clients at every stage of development in 1:1, couples, and family sessions. As a therapist, I assist clients with their journey inward. I believe that healing is truly the risk of showing up for yourself and your resistance to temptation to go back to unsilenced needs, numbing out, disconnection, and erasure. As you are aware, we are living in unprecedented times. My clinical practice aims to empower and heal individuals, families & communities through therapy, consulting, case management, training, & community outreach. At the heart of my practice is the belief that I play a small (yet significant) part in the battle for equality, civil rights, and service provision for marginalized groups as well as persons with disabilities and neurodivergence. Because of this, my approach to therapy is rooted in principles of social justice, trauma-informed care, community building, and excellence in service delivery. Some common theoretical approaches I use are Integrative Therapy, EMDR, CBT, Narrative Therapy, and Gender Affirming Therapy.
I have specialized education, training, and seven years of experience in using CBT with patients with depression and/or anxiety.
I have specialized training and three years of experience of using EMDR with patients.
