Shalon is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner which means she is advanced practice registered nurse. Shalon attended East Carolina University for her BSN and Anderson University for her Master of Science in Nursing. Shalon has been a PMHNP for five years and has over 20 years' experience working in mental health. As a PMHNP she is able to evaluate, diagnose, treat and prescribe medications if deemed necessary and appropriate. Shalon engages holistic treatments that address the mind, body and social needs of each patient. Shalon is committed to providing mental health services to traditionally underserved communities.
The first session will include a brief introduction of my experiences of treating patients with mental health disorders in outpatient and inpatient settings and my treatment philosophy.
Shalon provides empathy, compassionate and culturally competent care to all patients regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity.
Shalon engages holistic treatments that address the mind, body and social needs of each patient. She is aware of the social and economic barriers that contribute to disparities in mental health treatment in marginalized people, such as LBGTQ community, BIPOC and the disabled due to lack of access.
Psychoeducation
Psychoeducation is a treatment modality that I use with all patients to help them better understand their illness or disorder and help them develop healthy coping strategies.
