Hi! My name is Rachel, and I have a passion for supporting all people through the many unique journeys and roads of life. I view therapy as a space where we both bring expertise and respect to our work. I approach getting to know a client from a strength-based and trauma informed lens. This means I will always see the good in you, even if it may feel hard to see within yourself. I am here to provide a listening ear, a new perspective, and see if things could be better. I am not here to judge your past, rather, reflect on how you were (and are) doing the best you can at any given time. We all have struggles, and I work to connect with you on a human level. While I do not make light of dark experiences, I often use humor and sarcasm to help us connect. Sometimes we laugh so we don’t cry; either or neither is okay in our work. Your goals, hopes, worries, and safety are my priorities, with you always consenting to what we discuss and do in session. I also use my experience with my own chronic illness, neurodiversity, and trauma to help clients feel less alone in their struggles.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session we will be getting to know one another. You are the expert of your experience, and I have expertise in supporting wellbeing. Together, we create therapeutic goals, discuss your hopes and worries about therapy, and ease you into the process. You will always consent to what you share in our sessions, which allows you to be empowered

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

As a woman who wears may hats in society, I can empathize with a variety of life experiences. I am able to create a space where you are seen. Not just seen as a “label” you may carry, but as the whole you. I value equality and equity in our work. I will hold a space for you to share and also challenge you when necessary. Although therapy can be intense, it can also be beautiful, fun, educational, exciting, messy, complicated, enjoyable, and life-changing. If a client wants a supportive, validating therapist with kindness and lack of judgment, I am the counselor for them.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I have the most clinical experience with high school and college aged clients. I have worked with both extensively since 2019. Moreover, I have worked with clients as young as 7 and as old as 65. I am most effective at supporting folks who are looking for a high support, high accountability type of counselor. Typically, I am gentle and validating in my approach, always looking to highlight wins, strengths, and growth. Clients who want to make progress, learn about themselves and their mental health, and are open to new perspectives work best. I have found clients that have ADHD/ anxiety/ depression/substance misuse/ respond positively to my care. I love supporting and uplifting women in their power.

My treatment methods

EMDR

Method of learning to calm your mind and body in order to properly process traumatic memories. Science backs this method through research, consistent symptom improvement across all who engage, and long term improved outcomes.

Narrative

We often accept the stories we are told about ourselves and the world around us. However, those stories may be viewed from a new perspective to allow a re writing of your story. Often, creating a new truth in how you see yourself and the world around you.

Trauma Informed Care

I always approach experiences with a trauma informed care lens. Meaning, I am always going to reflect on experiences a client shares (knowing there is much I do not know) and do my best to proceed cautiously and safely through therapy.

Strength-Based

I always come from a strength-based lens. You always have something to lean on that has helped you survive every negative experience. Using those strengths in new, healthier, and safe ways will help achieve therapeutic goals. It is not my job to judge your past, but rather to reflect on how you were likely doing the best you could with the skills and support you had.

Psychoeducation

Teaching the way the brain, body, and mind work is a vital part of supporting clients in long term healing. If one can understand the mechanism, then it can be fine tuned to run smoothly.
