I have been working as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for the last 10 years and have both a master's degree and doctoral degree in applied clinical psychology. I have worked in the community with individuals, couples, youth with high-risk behaviors, and military families. I specialize in working with individuals with anxiety and/or depression, women's issues, substance abuse and recovery, trauma (PTSD or PTS) , military and veterans, first responders and those facing relationship or life transition concerns. While working with my clients I focus on the whole person, pulling forward your strengths and wisdom to solve life's challenges. I use solution-focused, cognitive behavioral and emotion-focused interventions. I also have seven years experience working with people outdoors in nature. I have a certificate in nutrition for mental health and believe in holistic treatment involving mind, body, and spirit. I will work with you to develop a treatment plan that is right for you as an individual. If you want to work holistically, we will develop a plan to address all three aspects, and if you don't prefer to work holistically, I will tailor your treatment to your specific interests. I value the rapport I develop with my clients above all things. The nature of the therapeutic relationship is the catalyst and holding space that creates safety to do all future work together. Choosing the right therapist who has a personality you are comfortable with is of utmost importance. Please reach out to me for a free phone consultation and let's find out if we can do some great work together to solve life's many challenges.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session you can expect I will outline ethical policies and procedures that guide the work I do with my clients. I will also introduce myself to you, review brief history of my experience, education and credentials. Additionally, we will discuss payment or insurance, expectations regarding communication and how to keep our communication confidential. I will address any questions you may have as well. The majority of the session will be focused on getting to know you, what your goals are for our time together and learning more about who you are and your history.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My strengths lie in developing a strong rapport with my clients and helping my clients to move from feeling overwhelmed by life's challenges to peaceful serenity within themselves and in relationships with others. I use recovery principles to help clients understand themselves, have self-compassion and develop a strong identity. My strengths lie in helping clients identify what they want and need and helping the willing client get what they need.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I have been clinically trained in humanistic or person-centered therapy based on Carl Rogers model. This means I acknowledge each client as the expert on their own life and work with you in a supportive manner to assist you in reaching your personal goals. I am not the expert on your life but rather walk alongside you to assist you with finding greater satisfaction in all areas of life.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and commitment therapy is a helpful model identifying your values and how to live towards your value system, learning to accept yourself without judgement. This is a helpful modality when working with any kind of behavior modification, accepting your feelings and working with those in recovery from addictions.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT tools in my work with all clients but do not work primarily as a CBT therapist.
