Barbara Barroso
I’m a therapist who believes healing isn’t about quick fixes, it’s about having a space where you can breathe, be honest, and not feel alone in what you’re carrying. I’ve been through my own seasons of struggle, and I know how overwhelming life can feel when everything is chaotic and heavy. My approach is warm, steady, and real. I help you slow things down, make sense of what’s happening inside you, and build tools that bring moments of calm even when life is messy. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are and walk with you toward clarity, strength, and relief.
First session
In our first session, we’ll slow things down and get to know one another. Many clients don’t realize how important this step is, it helps me understand what you’re carrying, what feels most urgent, and what support you need right now. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what your day‑to‑day looks like, and how your stressors, emotions, and relationships are impacting you. You won’t need to have everything figured out or know exactly where to start. My role is to help you organize what feels overwhelming, identify your most immediate needs, and begin creating a plan that feels realistic and supportive. By the end of the first session, you’ll have a clearer sense of direction, a space that feels safe to return to, and an understanding of how we’ll work together moving forward.
Strengths
One of my biggest strengths in session is the way I show up, steady, compassionate, and real. I’m here to support you fully, but I’m also here to gently challenge you when it’s time to try something new or step outside the patterns that keep you stuck. I bring a mix of lived experience, cultural awareness, and clinical grounding that helps me understand not just what you’re saying, but how your body, history, and environment shape your story. I’m patient when things feel heavy, direct when you need clarity, and creative when traditional approaches don’t fit. I help you slow down, make sense of what’s happening inside you, and build tools that feel doable in real life, NOT just in theory. My goal is to help you feel supported while also empowering you to grow in ways that feel authentic and sustainable.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who feels overwhelmed by the stressors of everyday life, work, school, parenting, or complicated family dynamics and is noticing how these pressures are affecting their ability to show up in the world. They may deal with racing thoughts, emotional heaviness, low motivation, or cycles of grief, shame, anger, or self‑doubt that make it hard to slow down or feel present. They’re trying their best to keep moving, but the constant worry, exhaustion, or sense of being stuck has become too much to carry alone. They’re looking for a space where they can unpack what’s happening internally, understand their patterns, and build tools that help them move through life with more steadiness and clarity.
Treatment methods
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I don’t believe therapy is one‑size‑fits‑all. Our work will shift depending on what you’re experiencing and what feels most helpful in the moment. If we notice your thoughts are taking over spiraling, racing, or pulling you into self‑doubt we might use tools from CBT to help you slow them down and understand the patterns behind them. If emotional regulation is the challenge that week, we may lean into DBT skills to help you stay grounded, respond with intention, and build more balance between emotion and logic. I’m flexible and creative in session, and I pull from different modalities as your needs change. My preferred approach is DBT because it’s truly life‑changing it gives you practical skills and a new perspective on how to navigate all parts of life, not just the hard moments. But no matter what we use, the goal is the same: to help you feel more in control, more aware, and more equipped to handle what comes your way.
