New to Grow
It is magical thinking to keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different outcome. Often this is what we do in our relationships with partners, children, family, friends, and ourselves. Therapy is like pushing a pause button on what isn’t working well–a pause to examine the thought patterns and behaviors that may be keeping us from a more satisfying life. Therapy is a unique way to explore a kinder way of viewing yourself and build on that to improve your relationships. This means I meet you where you are and we collaboratively map a path forward. Like any road trip, there will be wonderful vistas, stretches of boring road, a flat tire, and an amazing realization that this trip was what you needed. We are never the same after a visit. We know something new about ourselves, how strong we are, how vulnerable we’ve been, and the grace that we can offer to ourselves. You are the expert of your life. I am curious about what you have done that has worked and will build on those strengths to make a difference. I believe that unconditional regard, non-judgment, and a client-centered, eclectic approach establish a helpful relationship in which positive change will occur. For the last twenty years, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families, who experienced trauma, divorce and its disruption to life; addiction issues, domestic violence, and its effects on relationships. My work also included counseling for anxiety, depression, and men who wanted to be more self-aware. I grew up in California and the West and recently relocated to Maryland to be with the love of my life. I received my Master's in Counseling Psychology from Holy Names University in Oakland, California, and I'm a fully licensed clinical professional counselor in Maryland.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
First sessions can feel a little awkward, but awkward is OK. In our first meeting, I hope you will ask me questions. We can talk and get to know each other. That is the beginning of building trust and a genuine, mutually respectful relationship. My goal is always to ensure that my clients feel comfortable and safe discussing their lives, and to use all the therapeutic tools in my kit to help them be successful.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My clients would probably describe me as personable and non-judgmental. I use a mix of modalities, including IFS-informed treatment, determined by each individual situation. Following each client's lead, I work to ensure that the hour is useful, helpful, and effective. It brings me a great deal of satisfaction when a person I have been working with feels ready to venture out on their own.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
Therapy is a courageous move. It is not about defects or deficiencies in character or personality; it is about openness to change and a willingness to take steps to make life more fulfilling and satisfying. I will meet you where you are with a non-pathologizing modality and assist you in accessing your inner wisdom.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
