Melody Schmutz

LCSW12 years of experience

Hi, my name is Melody Schmutz and I am the owner and founder of Hope Therapy, an online/telehealth solution for individuals and families across Arizona. I provide telehealth therapy across Arizona using the Grow Therapy Platform for individuals and families who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, ADHD challenges, and daily stress. Many of the people I work with struggle with racing thoughts, intense emotions, difficulty focusing, or impulsive reactions that affect relationships, work, and self-confidence. Therapy focuses on helping you understand what you’re experiencing, reduce emotional overload, and develop practical coping skills so you can feel more grounded and in control. Together, we work to create small, meaningful changes that build positive momentum—helping you move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and a renewed sense of hope for your life.

First session

I practice and provide unconditional positive regard, fully accepting and respecting you without judgment. I create a safe, compassionate space where you can openly explore your thoughts, feelings, and challenges. In our work together, I focus on building hope—helping you see possibilities for change, resilience, and growth. Hope is at the heart of my approach: it’s what helps you begin momentum, stay empowered, and stay courageous as you navigate life’s obstacles. My goal is to walk alongside you, supporting you in creating meaningful, positive change in your life.

Strengths

I have been working in the mental health field for nearly 16 years, and as a military spouse, I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of individuals from all over the country and the world. These experiences have deepened my understanding of different perspectives and strengthened my ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I became a therapist because I wanted to make a tangible, positive impact—helping people face challenges, navigate obstacles, and reclaim their lives. I approach therapy with compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to help people create meaningful change. I am honored to walk alongside you on your journey and support you in building the resilience, insight, and strength you need to thrive.

Ideal clients

In my work, I focus on helping clients better understand how their brain and emotions work, while building practical, realistic strategies they can use both in and out of session. Therapy with me is collaborative, supportive, and skills-based. I start by listening and getting to know you and your unique story. Together we explore thoughts, feelings, behaviors, patterns, and challenges at your pace. We build skills and strategies that fit your real life and goals. I see you as more than a diagnosis —I see you as a human being worthy of dignity and respect. Our sessions will center on collaboration, respect, and empowerment. You deserve that. Our sessions will provide support to help you build resilience, clarity, and HOPE for your future.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a practical, evidence-based approach to help clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT is based on the idea that the way we think about situations can strongly influence how we feel and how we respond. When negative or unhelpful thought patterns develop, they can contribute to anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, and difficulty coping with everyday challenges. What CBT Looks Like in Therapy: In our sessions, CBT is used in a supportive and collaborative way. Together, we work to: *Identify unhelpful or distressing thought patterns *Understand how those thoughts affect emotions and behaviors *Challenge negative self-talk and replace it with more balanced thinking *Learn coping skills to manage stress, anxiety, and overwhelming emotions *Practice healthier behavioral strategies and routines *Build confidence, resilience, and emotional regulation over time CBT Tools I May Incorporate: Depending on your needs, CBT sessions may include: *Thought tracking and reframing exercises *Coping skill development *Behavioral activation for depression *Anxiety management and exposure strategies *Mindfulness-based CBT techniques *Problem-solving and goal-setting support
