Destony is a Harlem native and a licensed clinical social worker. She received her graduate degree in Social Welfare from the University at Albany, State University of New York. As a clinician, Destony has worked with diverse populations including children, adolescents, and adults living with emotional and mental challenges. She has also worked with teens and young adults in school settings as well as homes for adults living with severe mental illnesses.
Clients should expect to take away moments of deep reflection with the mind and body. Learning to look and feel somatically to what the body is saying to you.
My greatest strengths are keeping a tune to your needs and being reflective on how to grow as a therapist.
My approaches are inward with somatic experiencing. I have started training in EMDR. I want the client to notice their body and how it tells you what is happening to it. We then take our thoughts to help us understand ourselves better.
I am newly certified in EMDR and continue to utilize aspects of this in my therapy.
I regularly refer to the window of tolerance. I am deepening my awareness of this therapy.
The body keeps the score has been a catalyst with how we navigate therapy and therapeutic practices. I often talk about the body and how it holds our experiences.
