Cheryl Beck Benjamin
Hi! I'm Cheryl and I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I see clients of all ages for Depression, Anxiety and Caregiver Stress. My specialization is working with issues related to life changes (young adulthood, relationships, parenting, divorce, career change, illness, and aging,) caregiving and dementia. Whether we are navigating our own experience with life transitions or caring for others, issues related to this experience can dominate our lives, and cause significant distress. I come to this work, enriched with life experiences that have given me perspective, compassion, and empathy. I specialize in mental health challenges associated with life transitions and the aging process. In addition to my work as a private practice therapist, I am also the Clinical Director at an agency that serves those experiencing memory loss and their family members. I work with those facing aging and health issues, as well as care partners, and those in the "sandwich generation" (those caring for children and parents simultaneously). I'm experienced with cognitive decline, dementia as well as well issues facing family members and caregivers.
My specialization is working with issues related to life changes (young adulthood, relationships, parenting, divorce, career change, illness, and aging,) caregiving and dementia.
Working from an emotion-focused, humanistic, and existential lens, I am a partner for my clients as they face some of the most challenging moments of their lives. My goal is to help clients process past and present experiences. Together we learn to manage stress, anxiety and depression, and create meaning that will give their lives “wholeness.”
First session
In our first session, I'll ask you about your hopes and expectations of this experience, I'll listen to your stories and concerns, and together we'll work to craft the goals that will frame our work.
Strengths
Though I have extensive experience working with Children and Families, my current focus and strength is working with those navigating issues related to aging, and a loved one's journey with Dementia. I am passionate about this area of work, and believe that, so often, people are afraid to seek the help they need.
Treatment methods
Existential
Using an existential approach, I work with my clients to find the meaning that will enhance their lives and address their challenges.
