Hi, I’m Selena! I’m a warm, down-to-earth therapist who believes you shouldn’t have to pretend to have it all together in therapy. I strive to create a space where you can show up exactly as you are—messy, overwhelmed, confused, motivated, or somewhere in between. My approach is genuine, validating, and relatable. I use humor when it feels right, because sometimes you need to laugh at the absurdity of life before you can figure out what to do with it. I’m not here to sit across from you and act like I have all the answers. I’m here to listen, understand, ask the hard questions when needed, and help you make sense of what you’re experiencing. As a first-generation person from the Latinx community, I understand that life can come with layers of family expectations, cultural values, responsibility, and the feeling that you’re supposed to just “figure it out.” I know how important it can be to have someone who understands those nuances without judgment. My goal is for therapy to feel like a place where you can finally exhale, be yourself, and feel understood. As you are, we’ll start from there.

First session

Your first session is about getting to know you—not interrogating you or trying to “fix” everything in 50 minutes. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what has been going on, what you’re hoping will change, and what you need from me as your therapist. I’ll also explain how I work and answer any questions you have about therapy. If you’re nervous, that’s completely okay. You don’t have to know what to say or how therapy is supposed to work. My hope is that you leave your first session feeling heard, understood, and a little more comfortable with the idea that you don’t have to figure everything out alone. We’ll start where you are and take it one step at a time.

Strengths

I bring warmth, authenticity, humor, and a lot of curiosity into my sessions. I’m genuinely interested in understanding the person behind the symptoms—not just checking boxes or giving you a list of things you “should” be doing. I’m validating while also being honest with you. I want you to feel comfortable enough to be real, even when things are complicated, uncomfortable, or don’t make perfect sense. I’ll meet you where you are without judgment, and we’ll figure out where to go from there. Most importantly, I try to be a real person in the room with you. Therapy doesn’t have to feel stiff, overly clinical, or like you’re talking to someone who has everything figured out. Sometimes healing involves deep conversations, sometimes it involves challenging ourselves, and sometimes it involves laughing because…life is a lot.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is someone who is ready to understand themselves a little better, even if they’re not exactly sure where to start. Maybe you’re overwhelmed, anxious, stuck in your head, struggling with relationships, navigating a major life transition, or simply feeling like “I know something needs to change, I just don’t know what.” You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. In fact, you can come in with a whole mess of thoughts, emotions, and “I don’t even know how to explain this” moments. We can start there. I especially enjoy working with teens and adults navigating anxiety, OCD, relationship concerns, life transitions, self-esteem, grief, and the pressures that can come with family, culture, and expectations. I value working with people who want a therapist who will genuinely listen, validate their experience, and also gently challenge them when it can help them grow. You can come exactly as you are. No perfect answers required.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help you understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we’ll identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck and practice more helpful ways of responding.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)

For clients experiencing OCD, I use ERP to gently and collaboratively work through fears without relying on compulsions or reassurance. We’ll move at a manageable pace while building confidence in your ability to tolerate uncertainty.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I incorporate DBT skills to help with emotional regulation, distress tolerance, communication, and navigating difficult moments. The goal isn’t to stop having emotions—it’s to feel more capable of handling them.

Attachment-based

I use attachment work to explore how your relationships and past experiences may have shaped the way you connect, communicate, trust, or protect yourself. Understanding these patterns can help you build healthier and more secure relationships.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use a person-centered approach to create a space where you feel heard, accepted, and understood without judgment. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to support you in exploring your experiences, finding your strengths, and creating meaningful change at your own pace.
