Teri Thompson
Taking the first step toward improving your mental health can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to do it alone. I believe that everyone deserves compassionate, individualized care in a space where they feel heard, respected, and supported. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, life transitions, stress, and burnout. Many of my clients are high-achieving professionals, caregivers, healthcare workers, and individuals who have spent so much time caring for others that they've forgotten to care for themselves. My approach is collaborative, practical, and evidence-based. I combine medication management with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), supportive psychotherapy, and psychoeducation to help you understand your symptoms, develop effective coping strategies, and make meaningful, lasting changes. My goal is not only to help you feel better but to help you build the confidence and skills needed to thrive. Whether you're seeking support for the first time or looking for a provider who will truly listen and partner with you, I look forward to helping you move toward greater emotional wellness and a healthier, more fulfilling life.
First session
During our first session, we'll take time to get to know each other and discuss what brings you to treatment. I'll ask about your current symptoms, medical and mental health history, medications, lifestyle, and the goals you hope to achieve. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and share any concerns you may have. Together, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan based on your unique needs. If medication is appropriate, we'll discuss your options, including the potential benefits and side effects, and decide on a plan collaboratively. We'll also explore practical coping strategies and identify goals to begin supporting your progress right away. My goal is to create a welcoming, judgment-free environment where you feel heard, respected, and comfortable being yourself. By the end of our first appointment, you'll have a clearer understanding of your diagnosis (if applicable), your treatment options, and the next steps in your journey toward improved mental health.
Strengths
I know that life doesn't always go as planned. Some of the strongest, most successful people are quietly carrying anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, burnout, or years of putting everyone else first. My own life experiences, combined with nearly two decades in healthcare, have taught me that healing isn't about being "perfect"—it's about having the right support, practical tools, and someone who truly listens without judgment. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I bring both clinical expertise and genuine compassion to every session. Whether you're navigating a difficult season or have been struggling for years, I'll meet you where you are. My goal is to help you understand what's happening, develop an effective treatment plan, and move toward a healthier, more balanced life with confidence and hope.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are adolescents and adults who are ready to better understand themselves and take an active role in improving their mental health. They may be navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, grief, burnout, relationship challenges, or major life transitions, and they are looking for practical tools—not just temporary relief. Many of my clients are high-achieving professionals, healthcare workers, caregivers, entrepreneurs, and individuals who have spent years putting others first. They often feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or disconnected from themselves despite appearing successful on the outside. They value a collaborative, evidence-based approach to treatment and want a provider who will listen without judgment, explain the "why" behind symptoms and treatment options, and work with them to create realistic, achievable goals. They understand that healing is a process and are committed to developing the skills and confidence needed to create lasting change.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a practical, evidence-based approach to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. During our sessions, we work together to identify unhelpful thinking patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and create realistic, achievable goals that support lasting change. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I integrate CBT with medication management when appropriate, providing a comprehensive treatment approach tailored to each individual's needs. I emphasize skill-building, problem-solving, stress management, emotional regulation, and relapse prevention so clients can apply what they learn outside of sessions. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, empowered, and equipped with practical tools to improve their mental health and overall quality of life.
Trauma-Informed Care
I provide trauma-informed care by recognizing the impact that past experiences can have on emotional and physical well-being. My approach emphasizes safety, trust, collaboration, and respect, allowing clients to move at a pace that feels comfortable while developing coping skills, improving emotional regulation, and supporting healing without retraumatization.
Supportive
Supportive Therapy provides a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space for clients to process life's challenges. I offer emotional support, encouragement, education, and practical problem-solving while helping clients build resilience, improve coping skills, and navigate difficult transitions, relationships, grief, and everyday stressors.
