Valerie Stein

LCSW25 years of experience

Hello, and welcome. I'm Valerie Stein, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 25 years of experience helping adults navigate life's challenges with compassion, understanding, and practical support. I work with adults who are experiencing anxiety, relationship concerns, life transitions, stress, and mild symptoms of depression. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities or simply looking for a safe place to process your thoughts and emotions, I'm here to support you every step of the way. Over the course of my career, I've worked in schools, residential treatment programs, foster care, community mental health, and home-based settings. These experiences have given me the opportunity to support individuals and families from many different cultural and personal backgrounds, and I believe every client deserves care that is respectful, collaborative, and personalized. My approach is warm, supportive, and grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Together, we'll explore unhelpful thought patterns, strengthen coping skills, and develop practical strategies that can help you feel more confident, resilient, and emotionally balanced. My goal is to provide a space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes in your life.

First session

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another in a comfortable, supportive, and judgment-free environment. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, the challenges you're facing, and what you hope to accomplish through counseling. We'll also discuss your goals, review the therapy process, answer any questions you may have, and make sure you feel comfortable moving forward. My priority is to create a safe space where you feel respected, listened to, and supported from the very beginning.

Strengths

One of my greatest strengths is my ability to create a calm, welcoming environment where clients feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and emotions. I believe healing begins when people feel genuinely heard and understood. I take time to listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and work collaboratively with each client to identify practical solutions that fit their unique situation. Rather than telling you what to do, I work alongside you to build skills, increase self-awareness, and help you move toward the goals that matter most to you. My years of experience across a variety of clinical settings have taught me that every person's journey is different, and I strive to meet each client with empathy, patience, and respect.

Ideal clients

I enjoy working with adults who are navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, everyday stress, life transitions, and mild symptoms of depression. Many of my clients are looking to better manage life's challenges, strengthen coping skills, improve emotional well-being, and build healthier relationships. My approach is especially well suited for individuals who are motivated to make positive changes and appreciate a collaborative, supportive therapeutic relationship. Together, we'll focus on helping you build practical skills, increase confidence, and create meaningful progress toward the life you want.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In our work together, I would use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you better understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT is an approach that focuses on identifying unhelpful thinking patterns and learning more healthy, realistic ways of viewing situations that may be contributing to anxiety, stress, or low mood. We would work collaboratively to explore specific challenges you are experiencing and develop concrete coping strategies and skills you can use in your daily life. For example, if you came in feeling anxious about social situations and often thought, “I’m going to say something wrong,” we would use CBT to gently explore that thought and examine how accurate it is. Together, we might look at the evidence for and against it and identify more balanced alternatives, such as, “I might feel nervous, but I can still go and enjoy myself.”
