Kristina Cooner

LCSW (she/her)11 years of experience

Graduating with my masters in 2014 I have been working in the mental health field for over 10 years, earning my clinical designation in 2024. Initially working with youth and families in a group home and then prevention in the community, I have worked in a community outpatient clinic

I work with a wide variety of clients to help them achieve their goals. I utilized a person centered trauma informed approach with my main modalities including CBT, DBT, somatic approaches, play therapy, and poly vagal theory.

setting for the last 4 years with a wide variety of clients of all ages and diagnoses. I utilized multiple modalities to tailer my clinical services for a person centered and trauma informed approach. I focus on meeting each client and understanding their needs and goals for themselves and collaboratively create a treatment plan that they are comfortable with while taking a wholistic approach to ensure the spectrum of needs are addressed since mental health does not happen in a vacuum. The modalities that are most incorporated in my work include CBT, DBT, somatic approaches, play therapy, and poly vagal theory.

First session

Initial sessions are a space to begin to get to know each other and explore what concerns you have. We’ll explore some of your concerns, experiences, and what you’d like to work on or get out of therapy. We’ll discuss possible diagnoses and treatment options. My hope is that clients leave these sessions feeling hopeful and heard.

Strengths

I have particular strengths in meeting clients “where you’re at,” working to understand you and your needs and making sure you are comfortable with the therapeutic relationship which is an integral part of successful therapy. I utilize multiple modalities and am comfortable adjusting these to combine or tailor them to each client specifically to ensure the best approach for the client. I understand that behaviors or outbursts often are linked to emotional distress and am able to hold space for clients without becoming triggered myself.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is someone who is invested in therapy, open to exploring themselves, and open minded about considering the different approaches available to them for treatment. I enjoy working with clients who want to learn about their mental health and ways that they can be more themselves. I hope that clients will benefit from our time together and be able to have more positive experiences.
