New to Grow
I graduated with my MSW in 2000 and have been licensed as an LCSW since 2004. I retired from Federal service, where I learned valuable skills while employed as an Army Civilian LCSW. Since retirement three years ago. I have been working in private practice seeing adults. I desire to support those who are in the process and journey of grief. I have training in Compassionate Bereavement. I am able to support those who feel loss in their lives, whether it is from death, divorce, job loss and transitions. My hobbies include short hikes, yoga, weightlifting, meditation and continued growth from lifelong learning.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In the first session you can expect to feel valued, heard, understood and respected and be able to leave session feeling confident of the plan for your care. I will answer your questions and describe the course of treatment.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I have found the best results are from a therapeutic approach that blends flexibility, creativity and compassion. I have positive reviews from clients who understand that therapy doesn't have to be a long journey they do alone. Sometimes shorter treatment options work very well and many people find relief from the first few sessions. I offer sessions on a weekly basis and most clients are able to work towards goals with 3-5 months. If you are looking for a longer term of sessions such as treatment lasting for a year or longer or sessions that are held one to two times a month please let me know that upfront so that we could discuss options in our therapeutic approach.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
The clients I serve will be able to integrate the skills we discuss in session into their lives and are open to new ways to mange their symptoms.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I have found this treatment method works well for everyone and is a foundation for personal growth.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT allows us to practice how to manage our negative thought patterns.
Grief Therapy
I have experience with traumatic and unresolved grief issues. Grief resolution is a steady process and one that people find very difficult without support. Grief is also about other losses such as divorce, job loss, changes and limitations with health and functioning. I am hoping to open my practice to those who may have accidently contributed to the death of another person and find they are struggling to talk about it.
Eclectic
Over the years I have learned and practiced many treatment methods and use them in a flexible and practical approach to client care.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness based practice is integral to achieving goals in therapy, as it teaches us to pay attention to our feelings and how to mange them more effectively.
