Terry Edwards Jr. is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who graduated from Ohio State University in 2008 with a MSW degree. Terry spent 2 years at Florida State University before transferring to Ohio State University and completing his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Psychology in 2004. Terry also received his Addictions Certificate from the University of Michigan in 2015. After graduating from Ohio State University, Terry moved back to his hometown of Detroit, MI where he was Licensed and practiced as a Social Worker. What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

After the first session, you can expect to heard; the good, the bad, and the indifferent. My effective communication skills and easy to relate to personality makes it possible for you to express yourself and at the same time there will be a setting of the tone to build a solid therapeutic foundation and relationship. I am approachable, confident, self-assured, and calm in all situations, thereby making the therapeutic space secure, comfortable, and nurturing at all times. You can expect to feel care and concern, respect and validation, and mutual trust. At the end of the first session, you will be left knowing that this process is of a shared decision-making process and mutual engagement in the better understanding of the concerning interest.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

The treatment modalities I utilize throughout the therapeutic process are Crisis Intervention, Psychoeducation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Creative Therapies, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Exposure Therapy. In order to achieve effective outcomes, I employ active listening, empathy, genuineness, unconditional positive regard, open questions, self-disclosure, and interpretation to maneuver through the therapeutic relationship.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My areas of strength are making you feel welcomed, honesty, open-mindedness, authenticity, and persistence. Regardless of modality, these concepts allow you to create the bravery to conquer any barriers and overcome any challenges that are preventing you from being the best representation of you, not only to yourself but to those in your environment. Whether it’s depression, anxiety, relationship issues, self-esteem, confidence, direction in life, behavioral challenges, or resolving past traumas, my strength rests in homing in on your strengths.
