I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than a decade of experience supporting individuals, families, and communities through a wide range of life challenges. I earned my Master of Social Work from The Ohio State University in 2008, after completing my Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Psychology in 2004. My academic journey also includes two years at Florida State University and an Addictions Certificate from the University of Michigan, which I received in 2015. After graduating, I returned to my hometown of Detroit, Michigan, where I became licensed and began practicing as a social worker. Throughout my career, I have worked as a therapist, crisis manager, and adjunct professor; roles that have allowed me to develop a well-rounded, real-world understanding of the issues people face in everyday life. My work has been guided by a strong commitment to strengthening both interpersonal and intrapersonal awareness as a pathway to meaningful change. I believe that growth happens when individuals feel understood, supported, and equipped with practical tools to navigate life’s complexities. Through my work with individuals and families across the lifespan, I strive to approach each person with compassion, curiosity, and respect, supporting emotional, mental, and physical well-being at every stage of human development.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session is really about getting to know you and making sure you feel comfortable. I know starting therapy can feel unfamiliar or even uncomfortable, especially if you’ve never done it before, and we’ll take things at a pace that feels right for you. There’s no pressure to share everything at once. We’ll talk about what brought you in, what you’re hoping to get out of therapy, and what life looks like for you right now. I approach this work with humility and curiosity, recognizing that your experiences may be shaped by culture, relationships, family dynamics, identity, and systems that don’t always feel supportive. Whether you’re coming in as an individual, a couple, or a family, and especially if you’re a man or someone from a marginalized community; this is a space where your experiences will be respected and taken seriously. I’ll also explain how I work, answer any questions you have, and we’ll start to map out next steps together. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, supported, and clear about where we’re headed, even if everything isn’t fully figured out yet.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My areas of strength are making you feel welcomed, honesty, open-mindedness, authenticity, and persistence. Regardless of modality, these concepts allow you to create the bravery to conquer any barriers and overcome any challenges that are preventing you from being the best representation of you, not only to yourself but to those in your environment. Whether it’s depression, anxiety, relationship issues, self-esteem, confidence, direction in life, behavioral challenges, or resolving past traumas, my strength rests in homing in on your strengths.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work with individuals, couples, and families from all walks of life. Because of my professional and life experiences, I approach therapy with openness and humility and welcome clients with diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences. I often support people navigating stress, depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, and everyday pressures. I work especially well with clients who are new to therapy, unsure where to start, or who want a space where they can speak openly and be met without judgment. Whether you’re seeking personal growth, stronger relationships, or greater emotional balance, my goal is to meet you where you are and work collaboratively toward meaningful change.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Together, we work to identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck and develop practical strategies to create positive change. I also recognize that therapy is not one-size-fits-all, so I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches to best meet your individual needs. My style is collaborative, supportive, and flexible, incorporating strengths-based, person-centered, mindfulness, and solution-focused techniques. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel heard, empowered, and supported as you work toward growth, healing, and lasting change.

Mr. Edwards was extremely helpful in our initial setting. He gave me plenty of things to think through and solid advice as I navigate my situation. He listened very well and was warm and understanding to my family dynamic.

Definitely helped me to realize different aspects in my life that could be holding me back. Helping to connect how the mental, emotional, and physical could be affected.
