New to Grow
I have been working in the field for 8 years, and 5 as a clinical therapist. I love meeting people where they are at and understand change does not happen over night. I often try to mix humor, directness, and researched based interventions when working through life's challenges. When I am not in the office, I love to hike, rock climb, and do outings with my children.
The first one is all about what's working, not working, and trying to understand - how you know if therapy is working. I work really hard to make sure we may this into a conversation and less about filling out boxes/forms.
You can expect me to play devil's advocate and explore topics from different perspectives. I have moved for much of my life, and enjoyed working with various populations regarding various topics/issues. Homelessness, substance abuse, domestic violence, ADHD, Bipolar, OCD, Autism, faith/religion - and more! Know I think there is more than one way to approach a topic and there rarely is "just one answer" despite how badly we want there to be.
My ideal client is one who is willing to self reflect, willingness to understand the root causes for their behavior, and open to feedback. I do not need my client to take all my feedback for consideration, but it will be necessary for them to know I do not make decisions for them nor will "make them" disclose information. I believe trust is earned and voluntary.
Other specialties
I identify as
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I like to use these skills to focus on practical ways to manage stress, reframe thoughts, and try to understand there are often more than one way to approach an issue.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I love using these skills to remind patients what is in their area of control, redirect negative thought patterns, and challenge their thought processes.
Grief Therapy
It is so difficult to sit with one's feelings, especially in regards to their deceased loved ones, a career they lost, broken relationships, or the aging process impacting their autonomy and identity. I use grief therapy to help clients identify their feelings, become more in tune with their emotional experiences, and helping them redifine who they are/will be after their grief event/s.
