Deborah Renois
I’m a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment.
I’m also known for creating a calm, nonjudgmental environment where patients feel comfortable being open, while still maintaining a structured approach that focuses on measurable progress.
I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, and ADHD, using a collaborative approach that combines medication management with practical, skills-based strategies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My goal is to help you feel more balanced, focused, and in control, while building tools that support your long-term mental wellness.
First session
During your first session, we’ll take a comprehensive and collaborative approach to understanding your concerns, history, and goals. I’ll ask about your current symptoms, mental health history, medical background, and any past treatments, as well as your lifestyle, stressors, and support system. This helps me form a clear picture of what you’re experiencing and how best to support you. We’ll also discuss what’s been working, what hasn’t, and what you’re hoping to gain from treatment. If appropriate, we may talk about medication options, and I’ll answer any questions you have so you feel informed and comfortable with the plan. I also incorporate practical, skills-based strategies; such as techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to start building tools you can use right away. By the end of the session, we’ll develop a personalized treatment plan together and outline clear next steps, so you leave feeling supported, understood, and confident about your path forward.
Strengths
My greatest strengths lie in my ability to combine thoughtful medication management with practical, skills-based support to create a well-rounded and effective treatment approach. I take a collaborative, patient-centered style, ensuring that each individual feels heard, understood, and actively involved in their care. I’m also known for creating a calm, nonjudgmental environment where patients feel comfortable being open, while still maintaining a structured approach that focuses on measurable progress. My goal is not just symptom relief, but helping patients gain clarity, confidence, and long-term tools for sustained mental wellness.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, and stress-related concerns who are motivated to better understand themselves and actively engage in treatment. I work best with individuals who are open to a collaborative approach that combines medication management with practical, skills-based strategies such as CBT-informed interventions. Many of my clients are high-functioning but feel overwhelmed, mentally exhausted, or stuck in unhelpful patterns, and are looking for clarity, emotional stability, and improved daily functioning. They value a structured yet supportive environment and are interested in developing long-term coping skills, not just quick fixes, to create meaningful, sustainable change.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have experience incorporating principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) into my practice as part of a combined medication management and supportive therapy approach. In my sessions, I use CBT techniques to help patients identify the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. For example, I guide patients in recognizing cognitive distortions such as all-or-nothing thinking or catastrophizing, and we work together to reframe those thoughts into more balanced and realistic perspectives. I also incorporate behavioral strategies, such as activity scheduling, sleep hygiene, and gradual exposure techniques; particularly for patients with anxiety, depression, and ADHD. When appropriate, I assign brief, practical exercises between visits, like thought records or behavioral activation tasks, to reinforce skills outside of sessions. My approach is collaborative and patient-centered. I tailor CBT interventions based on the patient’s level of insight, readiness for change, and clinical presentation, while also integrating psycho-education and supportive therapy. While I provide brief CBT-informed interventions during medication visits, I also recognize when patients would benefit from more structured psychotherapy and will refer to a therapist for ongoing, formal CBT when indicated.
Motivational Interviewing
I regularly use Motivational Interviewing (MI) in my practice to help clients explore ambivalence, strengthen motivation, and make meaningful behavioral changes. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, and other mental health concerns, using MI to support engagement in treatment and goal attainment. My approach is collaborative and patient-centered, emphasizing empathy, active listening, reflective questioning, and respect for client autonomy. I help clients identify their own reasons for change, build confidence, and develop achievable goals. As a PMHNP, I often integrate MI with medication management and psychoeducation to support positive treatment outcomes.
