I am a mental health professional whose experience supporting individuals through trauma, anxiety, depression, and major life transitions spans over three decades. As a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner specializing in Trauma-Informed care, I have spent nearly a decade integrating this powerful modality into my work to help clients access deeper healing and emotional clarity. My approach blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with DBT‑informed mindfulness and regulation skills, offering a structured yet compassionate pathway toward stability, resilience, and meaningful change. Clients often share that they feel more grounded, less triggered, and better equipped to navigate daily life with confidence and clarity.

First session

Your first session is designed to feel safe, structured, and grounded. You can expect a space where you do most of the sharing and I do most of the listening. This helps me understand your history, current challenges, and the patterns shaping your emotional and behavioral experiences. As you talk, I listen closely for themes, triggers, strengths, and needs—information that becomes the foundation of a treatment plan tailored specifically to your goals. The focus of the first session is truly on hearing your story in your own words.

Strengths

I bring over three decades of clinical experience to each session, offering attuned, compassionate listening, a grounded therapeutic presence, and an evidence‑based integration of CBT, DBT, and Brainspotting tailored to your needs. My approach stands out because it is deeply collaborative, trauma‑informed, and focused on identifying the patterns that shape your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I help you build practical regulation skills while creating a safe, steady environment where you can explore difficult emotions at your own pace. Your personal goals guide every step of our work together, ensuring therapy feels meaningful, empowering, and aligned with the changes you want to make.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is someone who’s been carrying a lot; whether it’s trauma, anxiety, depression, or a major life change and is finally ready for a space where they can slow down, feel heard, and start making sense of what’s been happening inside them. They may feel overwhelmed by triggers or stuck in patterns they can’t quite break, but they’re open to exploring their story and learning new ways to regulate their emotions. They appreciate a therapist who listens deeply, offers practical tools, and uses approaches like CBT, DBT, and Brainspotting to help them move toward clarity and stability. Most of all, my ideal client wants a warm, collaborative partnership; someone who meets them where they are, helps them set meaningful goals, and walks with them through a healing process that feels safe, steady, and empowering.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors work together. In our sessions, we identify the patterns that keep them feeling stuck and begin replacing unhelpful thinking with more balanced, supportive perspectives. CBT gives clients practical tools they can use right away; skills that help reduce triggers, improve emotional regulation, and strengthen daily functioning.

Brainspotting

I use Brainspotting to help clients gently access and process the deeper emotional and physical roots of their trauma and triggers. Together, we identify where activation shows up in the body and find the “brainspot” that connects to that stored experience. As you focus on that spot, your brain begins to naturally process what has been stuck, allowing healing that often goes beyond traditional talk therapy. I guide the process with grounding, mindfulness, and a steady, supportive presence so you feel safe throughout the work. Over time, clients experience fewer triggers, reduced emotional reactivity, and a greater sense of internal stability.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I use DBT to help clients understand the three states of mind: Emotion Mind, Reasonable Mind, and Wise Mind so they can recognize what’s happening internally and respond more effectively. In our sessions, I help clients notice when they’re in Emotion Mind, where feelings are intense and overwhelming, or in Reasonable Mind, where they rely only on logic and shut down their emotional needs. Together, we practice shifting into Wise Mind, the balanced place where emotions and logic work together. I guide clients through grounding, mindfulness, and awareness exercises so they can access Wise Mind more easily during stress, conflict, or triggering moments. Over time, clients learn to pause, regulate, and choose responses that feel calmer, clearer, and more aligned with their goals.

Christian Counseling

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18 I offer Christian counseling for clients who want their faith to be an active part of their healing process. In our work together, I integrate biblical principles with evidence‑based approaches to support emotional, spiritual, and relational growth. We explore how scripture, prayer, and Christian values can bring comfort, clarity, and direction during difficult seasons. My goal is to create a space where clients feel safe to talk openly about their struggles and their faith, knowing they’re working with a therapist whose values align with their Christian worldview and who honors the role Christ plays in their healing journey.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

My mindfulness approach is simple, practical, and easy for clients to use in daily life. I teach clients how to slow down, notice what’s happening in their body and mind, and create a little more space between what they feel and how they respond. Through mindful breathing, grounding, and present‑moment awareness, clients learn to calm their nervous system and stay centered during stress or emotional overwhelm. I blend mindfulness with CBT, DBT, and Brainspotting so clients can stay grounded while working through difficult emotions and triggers. Over time, mindfulness becomes a gentle, everyday tool that supports regulation, clarity, and self‑compassion.

So lovely and helpful. I started the session a mess and crying and now I am level headed and able to cope much better. I can’t wait to see her again.

Dr. Lumpkins is amazing. She helped me see in one session, that my situation was not unique, and that those who I thought were mistreating me, weren't mistreating me, it was their way of dealing with their trauma. I am so excited and look forward to the coping mechanisms she will offer.
