Erin Ellis
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York with over 5 years of experience. I have worked with adults seeking help with anxiety, depression, other mood disorders, stress, life transitions, LGBTQ+ issues, and trauma. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY followed by a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Medaille College in Buffalo, NY.
First session
In your first session, you will have the opportunity to share what brings you to therapy and what you’re hoping to work on. We will get to know each other, talk about what you’ve been experiencing, and begin identifying goals for therapy. My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, supported, and with a better understanding of how we can work together moving forward.
Strengths
I have prior experience in crisis intervention, substance abuse, community mental health and tele-therapy. I utilize a combination of approaches including mindfulness techniques, cognitive/dialectical behavioral skills (CBT, DBT), as well as compassion and strength-based approaches. I collaborate with clients, meeting them where they are and them clients find personalized solutions to achieve their goals and become their best selves. Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and discuss what brings you to therapy. It’s normal to feel nervous; therapy is a process we’ll build together over time.
Ideal clients
I am best positioned to work with adults 18 and older who are looking for a supportive, nonjudgmental space to work through whatever they may be experiencing. I welcome clients of all backgrounds, identities, and life experiences, including LGBTQ+ clients and people of all ethnicities. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, relationships, self-esteem, or simply feeling stuck, I’m here to meet you where you are and work together toward meaningful change.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I mostly utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in my practice, which helps clients challenge recurring thoughts and better manage their symptoms. We will use CBT to look at how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. From there, we will work together to better understand and change patterns of thinking that may be contributing to stress and anxiety. The goal of the therapy method is to help you feel more relaxed and in control in your everyday life.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I utilize person-centered/humanistic therapy to provide a safe, supportive space to better understand clients and what you need. Through the use of this approach I will offer empathy, acceptance, and genuine support rather than telling you what you should do or how you should feel. In sessions, you might explore your emotions, relationships, experiences, and patterns at your own pace. Together, we will work toward greater self-awareness, self-acceptance, and confidence in making choices that feel right for you.
