Hey there, I'm Cristina. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in San Diego, CA. I am a lover of nature and deep connections and believe in their inherent healing powers. As a therapist, I incorporate a mind/body approach with my clients to address a variety of issues and to bring growth and healing. I specialize in working with religious trauma, LGBTQIA+ related issues, women's issues, and trauma.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Effective therapy starts with trusting you are safe. I engage with my clients in a warm, curious manner. It is my goal to listen to you in order to fully understand you and how I may best support you through our sessions. I aim to partner with you so together we can explore the hard stuff while also offering you tools and insights that lead to growth and healing. This will begin in our first session during which we will explore your reason for seeking therapy, go over historical information that may be useful in getting to know you, and together develop goals for our work together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a therapist who has done the work herself, I aim to guide you throughout the therapeutic process not only as a professional but as someone who has and continues to work towards personal healing and growth. It is my goal to use my expertise to support you on a journey from healing to thriving.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with clients of a variety ages from adolescence through adulthood. I particularly enjoy working with and supporting my fellow members of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as women who are seeking healing and personal growth. My work with clients focuses on healing trauma and troubling symptoms (anxiety, mood disorders, relational issues, issues related to gender identity, etc.) with a somatic focus. This means that we will often slow down our sessions to tune into what you are experiencing emotionally and in your body. We will then tend to this as a you learn skills to regulate your nervous system and to create the internal environment necessary for healing.

My treatment methods

Somatic

I use Somatic Experiencing Therapy techniques to process trauma and support regulation of the nervous system with clients who have experienced trauma and have current symptoms of anxiety, depression, and relational issues.

Compassion Focused

I meet clients where they are with empathy, understanding, and positive regard while supporting them with accessing their resilience and inherent ability to grow and heal.

Feminist

I work with my cis and trans female clients with issues particular to women that effect mental health with the goal of supporting empowerment.

Gender-affirming therapy

I work with trans and non-binary adolescents and adults or those who are questioning to explore their identity in a safe, affirmative, non-judgmental space.

Strength-Based

I use a strength-based approach with my clients as I know they come to therapy full of resources and strengths that they just may need support with accessing.
