I'm Dr. Dontisha Davis, licensed therapist based in Louisiana. I hold a Doctor of Education and draw on CBT, DBT, and trauma-focused approaches to help women move from stuck to grounded. My work is direct, solution-oriented, and deeply culturally affirming — because healing looks different depending on who you are and where you've been. You might be feeling exhausted from holding everything together, anxious about the future, or stuck in patterns that no longer fit who you are. I work primarily with women and couples navigating anxiety, burnout, relationship stress, and trauma that can be hard to put into words. Many of my clients are new to therapy or haven’t always felt culturally safe or understood in past spaces. With me, you don’t have to shrink yourself or explain your whole identity just to be believed. Together, we’ll work toward you feeling more grounded, more confident, and more like yourself again.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session is a gentle starting point, not a test. We’ll talk about what brought you here, what you’ve already tried, and what you want to feel different this time. You never have to share more than you’re ready for. If you’re in Louisiana or Arkansas and looking for a therapist who respects your story and your culture, I’d be honored to meet you. You can request an appointment through Headway to get started with telehealth from wherever you are.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

In our sessions, I blend CBT, DBT, trauma-focused approaches, and motivational interviewing, always tailoring tools to your real life. I’m direct but not harsh, warm but not passive. Therapy with me feels like an honest conversation where we explore hard things, celebrate small shifts, and challenge what no longer serves you. I view growth as a process — not a straight line — and I’ll walk that path with you at your pace.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work with adults who are ready to better understand themselves, heal from past experiences, and create meaningful, lasting change. Many of my clients are high-achieving professionals, college and graduate students, helping professionals, and individuals navigating anxiety, burnout, trauma, depression, relationship challenges, grief, or major life transitions. I have a particular passion for supporting Black women and other professionals who often carry the weight of high expectations while feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or disconnected from themselves. Whether you're struggling to manage stress, process difficult experiences, improve relationships, or regain a sense of balance, I provide a supportive, culturally responsive, and evidence-based space where you can heal, grow, and thrive.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

I recognize that trauma can significantly impact how we view ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. My approach prioritizes safety, trust, empowerment, and collaboration. Rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?" I seek to understand, "What happened to you?" I move at a pace that feels comfortable for each client while helping them build emotional regulation skills, strengthen resilience, and process difficult experiences without retraumatization.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Using CBT, I help clients identify the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we explore unhelpful thinking patterns, challenge beliefs that no longer serve you, and develop healthier ways of responding to life's challenges. CBT provides practical tools for managing anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem concerns, and emotional regulation.

Grief Therapy

Grief extends beyond the loss of a loved one—it can include the loss of relationships, careers, health, identity, or life expectations. I provide a supportive space where clients can process their grief without judgment or pressure to "move on." Together, we honor your loss, explore the emotions that accompany it, and work toward integrating the experience while finding hope, meaning, and continued purpose.

Couples Counseling

n couples therapy, I help partners improve communication, deepen emotional connection, and navigate conflict in healthier ways. My goal is to create a balanced environment where each person feels heard and understood. Together, we identify recurring relationship patterns, strengthen conflict resolution skills, rebuild trust when appropriate, and foster greater intimacy, understanding, and teamwork.
