LPCC, 21 years of experience
Hello! Are you overwhelmed, stressed out, angry, or maybe in a funk and not sure why? You are not alone! I work with many teens and young adults in the same boat and am excited to work with you to get yourself back on track and feeling good. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, and Certified Case Manager. I have worked in a variety of settings with a focus on the teen population since 2001 such as wilderness therapy programs, high schools/boarding schools and rehabilitation/psychiatric hospitals. I enjoy helping teens and young adults up to 25 years of age find their own path and believe that everyone has many answers within themselves. Sometimes these answers are hard to find when life gets in the way. With some self reflection, new awareness and processing it's exciting to see how things can begin to change with some new perspective and development of new stories we tell ourselves. As a result of this work, our lives moving forward can be elevated and begin to move in the right direction. I am honored to help clients in their journey to find peace, inspiration and motivation to be the best they can be! *Please note for clients in the Truckee/Tahoe area option for in person (in addition to virtual) *
I would like to get to know you so in the first session I will ask some questions to find out more about you, what your challenges and goals are, and what you are hoping to get from our sessions. I also want to answer all of your questions so you can feel comfortable moving forward. I will also go over confidentiality and some other logistics. What will you will take away from our sessions? Likely some things to think about, some new insight and perspective, some tools/strategies, some peace and new excitement for your path ahead.
Working with teens/young adults, being approachable, empathetic, a good listener, working with my clients as a team, sharing strategies and tools to manage stress, relationships, anger, anxiety, depression, school related issues, etc., creating a new positive path with clients.
I enjoy working with teenagers/young adults (up to 25) as they navigate the ever changing environments that they are living in. There are so many changes taking place all at once and it can be difficult to manage all of these moving parts in a peaceful and grounded way. As a result, anger, anxiety and depression symptoms amongst others can come out. Since mind body and soul are all connected we can be left feeling drained of energy or hopeless as a result. It is truly rewarding for me to help teens find their true selves underneath all of the stuff that gets in the way. I enjoy working as a team with my clients to find new energy, balance and to get on a new path towards success.
I was trained in this method in 2007 while working at a psychiatric hospital and have been using this method since then with individuals and groups.
I have been leading groups with teens since 2002 and believe that group therapy can be so powerful, especially in those moments when group members are supportive and inspiring to one another.
Mindfulness is one part of DBT which I have been incorporating into my practice since 2007. It is a powerful tool for becoming present and moving forward in a positive direction.
I have used this method with teens in a variety of settings and incorporate it as needed. Sometimes brief treatment with focus on a specific goal that is affecting daily life is necessary and helpful.
I have been using this method when appropriate in my practice and believe that our strengths are often forgotten and can guide us to a better path.
