Hello, my name is Kaitlin Onorato (she/her), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Georgia. I take a person-centered, compassionate approach to help you work toward meaningful goals in a supportive, judgment-free space. I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, and chronic conditions. My practice is inclusive and affirming, with a passion for supporting LGBTQIA+ clients. I use evidence-based methods including TF-CBT, ARC, DBT, ERP, and EMDR.

First session

My goal for the first session is to learn as much as I can about you in a short amount of time. After our first appointment, we will be able to talk about treatment goals and come up with your personal game plan for becoming the best version of yourself!

Strengths

I am able to both sit and hold space as well as push back and challenge clients when needed. I make sure to take a person-centered approach to help you reach your goals.

Ideal clients

I treat anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, and help individuals cope with chronic conditions. I also work with the LGBTQIA community to help them feel comfortable with who they are. To do this, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions, and others to help the client reach their specific goals. I work well with clients who are happy to laugh and joke around in session. I also have 2 dogs and would love to learn about your pets!

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a type of talk therapy based on the idea that your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Some things we may do include identifying unhelpful thought patterns, challenging those thoughts using evidence rather than automatically believing them, and changing behaviors that may be keeping a problem going.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

CPT is a type of therapy specifically designed to help people who have experienced trauma. The basic idea is that after something traumatic happens, people can develop beliefs about themselves, other people, or the world that aren't entirely accurate or helpful. CPT helps you identify and examine those beliefs, look at the evidence for and against them, and develop a more balanced understanding of what happened

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT focuses on learning practical skills for handling strong emotions, difficult relationships, and stressful situations. The 4 main areas of DBT are mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT has a lot of helpful handouts that go along with it, making it easier to use skills independently.

EMDR

EMDR is a structured therapy often used to help people process traumatic or distressing experiences. Sometimes a distressing experience can remain “stuck,” so that reminders trigger strong emotions, body sensations, or beliefs. In EMDR, you briefly focus on aspects of the distressing memory while using bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, taps, or sounds. The goal is to help your brain process the memory differently, so you can remember what happened without experiencing the same level of emotional distress.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)

The basic idea is that you gradually face something that causes anxiety (exposure) while resisting the compulsive behavior or safety behavior you normally use to reduce that anxiety (response prevention). ERP is especially well known for treating OCD, but it can also be used for certain anxiety-related conditions.
