I welcome you, with warmth! I help clients to be at ease in therapy, and offer compassionate care crafted by 24 years of private practice experience with individual adults, couples, families, and adolescents. Creating a space of care and respect for you and your unique journey, I carefully match your needs and personality style to evidence-based practice. My passion is helping you move forward. Often, we need to reclaim a healthy space after suffering from depression, anxiety or trauma. Others seek help in healing a wounded relationship. Families seek assistance in adapting to changing circumstances or challenging relationships with their adolescent children. We live in a complex, information-overload society in which we might feel intense pressure to be, do, or look very different from who we are at our core. I meet my clients in whatever space they are emotionally inhabiting, and discover where each client wants to go. Together, we create a pathway to move you closer to your goals. The single best predictor of positive outcome in therapy is the client-counselor relationship, called the therapeutic alliance. I bring non-judgmental, positive, and compassionate energy to our client-counselor relationship. I hope to welcome you soon to my practice.
Throughout our time together, you can expect deeper understanding of the issues which are troubling you, activities -- both in and out of session -- to move you or your relationship(s) forward, coping skills and insights that are useful in everyday life, handouts to reinforce learning, and techniques appropriate to you and your goals. We also will utilize books or workbooks, videos, and other internet-based resources that are unique to your issues and goals. From practical to the theoretical, I meet you where you are, and provide tools that I believe will move you towards your goals.
I match treatment approach to the client's needs and personality, and only use evidence-based treatments in therapy. Therapies that I use include CBT, Interpersonal Relations, Schema Theory, Internal Family Systems, Reality Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic approaches, DBT, and Solution Focused Therapy. All treatment method and techniques are person-affirming, positive, and inclusive.
We develop habits, coping skills, emotional scar tissue, and social-psychological abilities as we move through life. Sometimes, how we have learned to adapt to our lives makes us fulfilled and content. Other times, because of inflicted trauma wounds, genetic pre-dispositions, stages of life, relationships, family issues, or work situations—our results of trying to cope lead to depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or other issues. My strengths involve assessing where you are and where you want to be, and co-creating a pathway to get you there--while providing a safe space for exploration, vulnerability, and growth. I believe that my 23 years as a faculty member in the field of psychology, as well as 24 years in private practice, provide a real depth of experience.
