I am Dr.Doris Council, a nurse practitioner with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice in Psychiatric Mental Health. I am also a board-certified family nurse practitioner. My initial startup as an advanced practice nurse was as a family nurse practitioner and my job entails caring for patients across lifespan from Pediatrics to Geriatrics. This experience revealed how the mind and body connection is often undermined. As a result, I was propelled to get my Doctorate in nursing in psychiatric mental health to be able to appropriately bridge this gap in care. Now as a psychiatry mental health provider, caring and meeting the needs of patients with mental and psychological disorders has become my passion, and this is my mission to provide hope and positive quality outcomes and experiences to those with psychological needs and mental disorders.
As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner who incorporates therapeutic approaches, my first session with a client is a comprehensive 60-minute visit that includes both therapy and medication management. I begin by creating a safe, welcoming space where the client feels comfortable sharing their concerns. We explore emotional, psychological, and physical symptoms, personal and medical history, and treatment goals. I integrate supportive therapy techniques to encourage open dialogue and build trust. During the same session, I also assess for any need for psychiatric medications, provide education about options, and, if appropriate, initiate a treatment plan. Clients leave with a clearer understanding of their care path and the reassurance that their mental health needs are being addressed holistically.
What sets my approach apart is the integration of mind-body harmony in treatment plans. I believe in fostering a supportive and understanding environment, where you feel heard, valued, and empowered to take charge of your mental health.
I offer compassionate, evidence-based mental health care for adults 18 and older, addressing anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, insomnia, ADHD, mood disorders, and life stressors. Each 60-minute session combines supportive therapy and medication management, creating a personalized, holistic path to healing in a safe, collaborative space.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Person-centered care in mental health emphasizes understanding individuals holistically, considering their unique needs, values, and cultural background. It involves collaborative decision-making, empowering individuals to actively participate in their treatment plans and make choices aligned with their preferences. Treatment plans are individualized, focusing on strengths and tailoring interventions to meet specific needs. Regular outcome evaluation ensures ongoing responsiveness and adjustments to promote the individual's mental health and well-being. These have been proven very effective with quality client outcome.

Dr council is very caring and warm, but I wanted to focus on her solution oriented and holistic care the most. I have not felt so whole in so long. She cares about my mental health, she asks all the right questions. The medication process was so short and I found one that I felt amazing on! Dr council checked in on me constantly, and listened to my concerns truly.
