Joyce Foreman

25 years of experience

I am a LCSW who works with adolescents and adults, both men and women. I enjoy working with individuals who are in some type of transition in their life--you may be a high school student trying to decide what you want to do following your graduation, you may be a young adult getting married, having a child, starting your career. You could be a parent who finds themselves alone as your children have all left home and you don't know how you will manage each day. You could be retiring, possibly having to retire too soon due to downsizing or medical issues. These are a few examples of what many of us struggle with at various times in our lives. We may find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, feeling more stressed or sadder than normal. We may become more irritable with other people and don't find any enjoyment in the thing we had in the past. We may find our thoughts racing, with no way to slow our mind down, often we find we are unable to sleep at night and feel tired all the time. We are unable to focus or complete daily tasks. We may start feeling more depressed or anxious and find that nothing we have done in the past seem to be working anymore. If this sounds like you, please contact me. I can help you in gaining understanding and awareness, prioritizing goals that fit your personal valuesand to develop new skills to manage your daily stressors. You will be able to gain perspective in all aspects of your life and feel more confident as you utilize new skills to manage your stressors.

First session

Each session lasts about 45 to 60 minutes. It is important that we both feel comfortable in talking with each other as we develop your personal treatment goal and begin therapy. At times you may have a homework assignment which helps incorporate the things you are learning in therapy in your daily life. I utilize a holistic approach and like to bring humor into sessions. Many people have stated that they feel talking with me is like talking to their best friend.

Strengths

My biggest strength is that I continue to love what I do after doing this for over 25 years. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults to gain understanding of themselves and become more confident in taking charge of their life while being true to their values. I find that often the new beginnings in life can be the most difficult to navigate since we don't have the experiences to know how to manage them yet. I am able to listen to you and help you gain insight and perspective as we work together.

Ideal clients

I work with men and women, adults and adolescents. I see people with mood disorders, grief and those experiencing major medical changes.
