I’m Michaela Fleming, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and my work is rooted in helping people reconnect with their inner resilience and authenticity. Through a collaborative, compassionate approach, I support individuals and couples in exploring the patterns, emotions, and experiences that shape their lives. Whether through mindfulness, EMDR, or depth-oriented therapy, I tailor each session to meet your unique needs—creating a space where healing, clarity, and meaningful change can take root.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, we’ll take time to explore what’s bringing you to therapy and what you’re hoping to gain from our work together. I’ll ask about your experiences, patterns, and any challenges you’ve been facing, but always at a pace that feels comfortable for you. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard and supported from the start. By the end of the session, we’ll have a sense of how we might work together, and if it feels like a good fit, we’ll commit to a few more sessions to deepen the process and clarify our path forward.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths as a therapist lie in creating a space where clients feel deeply seen, supported, and understood. I bring warmth, presence, and a sense of curiosity to each session, helping clients explore their inner world with compassion rather than judgment. My approach is flexible and tailored to each person—I integrate mindfulness, EMDR, emotionally focused work, and psychodynamic approaches to meet clients where they are. I also have a deep respect for the complexity of healing and growth, guiding clients at a pace that feels safe and supportive while helping them uncover the strengths and insights already within them.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with individuals and couples who are ready to explore their inner world with curiosity and compassion. Many of my clients are navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, trauma, or a sense of disconnection from themselves. They may feel stuck in old patterns or weighed down by anxiety, grief, or self-doubt. My approach resonates most with those who are open to deeper reflection—whether through mindfulness, EMDR, or emotionally focused work—and who want a space to feel seen, supported, and empowered to move toward a more grounded, authentic life.

My treatment methods

EMDR

Sometimes, the effects of trauma leave us feeling stuck, as if the past is intruding on the present. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based approach to addressing trauma and finding relief from its grip. EMDR works by helping your brain process difficult memories in a new way, so they no longer feel overwhelming or defining. Whether you’re dealing with a single traumatic event or layers of cumulative stress, if it appears you might benefit from the use of EMDR tools, we’ll take the process step by step. Sessions are paced to ensure you feel safe and supported as we work through the experiences that are holding you back. With my certification and experience using EMDR, including with survivors of acute trauma, I’ll guide you through this structured and potentially transformative approach. Together, we’ll work towards creating an increased sense of freedom and clarity, helping you move forward with greater ease and confidence.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-based therapy combines the practice of being present with evidence-based techniques to support healing and growth. By cultivating awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and body in the present moment, we can uncover patterns that might be contributing to stress, anxiety, or disconnection. In our work, I’ll guide you in integrating mindfulness into your daily life—not just as a practice, but as a tool for navigating challenges with clarity and calm. Whether it’s through guided exercises, meditation, or weaving mindfulness into relational and emotional work, we’ll create space for greater self-understanding and resilience. With my certification in mindfulness training from the Center for Greater Good at Berkeley, I bring both a scientific and relational approach to this work. Together, we’ll explore how mindfulness can help you break through old patterns, manage difficult emotions, and find more ease in your life.

Couples Counseling

Couples counseling is an opportunity to untangle patterns that create pain or distance and find ways to move forward together. My approach blends techniques from several modalities to create a safe and collaborative space where both partners can feel heard. We’ll start by setting clear goals for our work and checking in on progress regularly. Sessions often entail exploring the beliefs, experiences, and emotions that shape how you interact with each other. Together, we’ll connect these insights to the moments that feel hardest in your relationship and work to rebuild trust, intimacy, and connection. I help each partner develop the skills to listen deeply, respond with empathy, and better understand the dynamics at play. Sessions might include sharing practical tools to improve communication, exercises to repair past misunderstandings, or taking opportunities to shift perspective with humor or light role-play. The process is always tailored to your needs and helping you strengthen your bond and create a relationship that feels meaningful and supportive.

Psychodynamic

I started my therapy career and graduate study with a focus in Jungian and psychodynamic therapy. In our work together we will look at how familial and other past experiences have helped to make you the person you are today. In this exploration we can identify strengths and areas of challenge and pain in your life.

Transpersonal

My approach includes all aspects of the person, including emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual. Because we live in a society that can make a person feel fundamentally disconnected from others, looking at experiences through a transpersonal lens can help you understand yourself and find a greater awareness of your fundamental interconnectedness with the world. This in turn can help you understand that you are not alone.

Michaela is wonderful and the best therapist I have had to date. She is deeply caring and warm, and has a sense of humor. She is clearly incredibly experienced, and always goes at my pace to make sure I feel safe and contained. This means I am able to address past traumas with her, which I usually do not feel comfortable doing.

Michaela is a wonderful therapist - I feel so seen and heard by her. She creates a warm and explorative space that allows me to go deep and share things with her that I usually do not feel comfortable sharing. Her work is really transformative and I really recommend her.
