May Boyett
I work with children, adolescents, adults, parents, and families through individual therapy, parent counseling, and family therapy. I especially love helping people navigate anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, family conflict, parenting challenges, ADHD, motivation, self-esteem, and confidence.
Real Talk, Genuine Connection, and a Little Humor Along the Way. Therapy is a space to feel understood, work through life’s challenges, and grow without judgment or the pressure to have it all figured out.
I draw not only from my training, but also from my own life journey, so I can meet you with real empathy and authenticity. Whatever brought you here, you’ve found a warm place to start, and you don’t have to figure it out alone.
First session
In our first session, my priority is a comfortable, welcoming space where you can share what brings you in. We’ll talk about your concerns, strengths, and hopes, then start identifying goals and small steps you can use between sessions. Therapy works best as a team, so we’ll always work together. If you’re ready, let’s take that first step together.
Strengths
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and goal oriented, and I believe therapy should feel safe, supportive, and free of judgment. I take time to understand your unique story, strengths, and goals rather than any one size fits all plan. I also love to laugh, and I bring warmth and humor in when it fits, so therapy doesn’t always feel heavy.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are individuals, who may be navigating emotional, behavioral, or relationship challenges and are looking for support, understanding, and practical tools to help them move forward. I enjoy working with clients who may feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, stuck in difficult patterns, or unsure of where to start. They may be struggling with emotional regulation, anxiety, school-related challenges, family dynamics, boundaries, or navigating life transitions. Ultimately, I hope to help clients develop a better understanding of themselves, build confidence and coping skills, strengthen relationships, and feel more empowered to navigate life's challenges. I want clients to know they don't have to go through difficult experiences alone.
Treatment methods
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use a person-centered approach by prioritizing the therapeutic relationship and meeting each client where they are. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, understood, and respected. I approach each individual with empathy and curiosity, recognizing their unique experiences, strengths, and readiness for change. I collaborate with clients to identify meaningful goals, build on existing strengths, and develop strategies that align with their needs and values. My goal is to empower clients to take an active role in their growth while providing the support, guidance, and accountability needed to navigate challenges and build lasting change.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy principles to help clients understand the relationship between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I work collaboratively with clients to identify unhelpful thinking patterns, recognize behavioral cycles, and develop practical strategies to manage emotions and navigate challenges more effectively. My approach includes building coping skills, practicing problem-solving, setting achievable goals, and encouraging the application of skills in everyday situations. I aim to make therapy practical and individualized, helping clients develop greater self-awareness, confidence, and the tools needed to create meaningful and lasting chang
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is used by helping clients identify what they want to change, recognize their strengths, and build on what is already working. Rather than focusing primarily on problems, I help clients identify realistic goals, explore exceptions to challenges, and take small, manageable steps toward meaningful change. In practice, I use scaling questions, future-focused questions, and collaborative goal-setting to help clients recognize their progress, build confidence, and develop practical solutions that work in their everyday lives. My approach emphasizes each client's strengths, resources, and ability to create change at their own pace.
