New to Grow
I'm so glad you're here! It takes a lot of courage to be able to face our "stuff" and commit to growth. I would love to work with you to help achieve your goals! My core experience is in helping people explore questions about life, identity, and belonging so they can build the kind of lives they want to live. We can work together to identify your values, increase self-compassion, re-write internal narratives that no longer work for you, and address the impacts of trauma. I work primarily in the areas of substance use/process addiction and grief and loss. As a queer woman, I love to work with folks from a range of backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ folks and allies. I am a firm believer in the transformative power of connection, and my style of therapy is strengths-based, trauma-informed, and rooted in the concept of post-traumatic growth.
In our first session, we'll cover the basic reasons you're considering therapy and your treatment goals. I can answer any questions you have about therapy and we can consider different options for your treatment. Together, we can create a treatment plan that matches your goals and needs.
I combine evidence-based modalities with creativity, spirituality, and humor (I hope!). I'm direct with feedback and I aim to be authentic in the ways I show up in the world. I also know that many mental health challenges are related to external issues including racism, oppression, toxic environments, and injustice. It's hard to feel sane in a world that can appear to be kind of bonkers.
I primarily work with people with people in all stages of recovery, whether it is a substance use disorder or more of a process addiction (sex and love, gambling etc). I also specialize in working with folks dealing with trauma, grief and loss, and religious wounding.
I am trained in EMDR. This treatment method is helpful in working with trauma, especially if it is overwhelming to talk through traumatic events directly. EMDR also helps with grounding and future resourcing.
CPT is a specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy that helps people learn how to modify and challenge unhelpful beliefs related to the trauma.
I have worked in hospice care and am familiar with treating people dealing with grief and loss issues. Grief can be related to a wide range of losses and we can explore mourning, role and identity changes, and next steps.
I am trained in DBT and have taught DBT coping skills for several years. This method focuses on mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness.
