LCMHC, 4 years of experience
Hey! I'm Jennifer Alfonso, a Bilingual Mental Health counselor licensed in North Carolina. My major specialty is working with grief, whether it be the loss of a loved one, a job, a dream, or one's own self-esteem. I am a passionate and understanding therapist who values each person's unique strengths and goals. My approach is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, experiences, and personal values. I have experience working with a variety of issues such as anxiety, and depression. I believe in the power of creating a strong therapeutic alliance to achieve positive results. My journey as an individual has provided me with compassion, empathy, and an understanding of mental health. I am also committed to continuing my education and emphasizing the importance of self-care. I believe in creating a safe environment for individuals to openly and honestly express their thoughts and feelings. I look forward to meeting you!
In your first session with me, you can expect to find a warm and safe environment where you are free to express your needs and concerns at your own pace. We will use this time to get to know one another, as building a strong therapeutic relationship is essential for effective therapy. I will listen to your story and provide a space where you can feel understood and supported. Additionally, we will begin to explore your goals for therapy and discuss how I can best support you in your journey. I aim to create a trusting and collaborative partnership to ensure that you feel comfortable, and that the counseling process is tailored to meet your unique needs.
My strength lies in my integrative approach to therapy. By drawing from multiple modalities and theoretical frameworks, I am able to tailor my work to the individual needs of my clients. I deliver interventions using a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) techniques. This allows me to identify and focus on the most relevant tools for each client, increasing the effectiveness of your therapy and ensuring that the process truly serves your needs
My primary area of focus is providing counseling and therapy to individuals who are experiencing grief, anxiety, and depression. I specialize in helping people cope with significant life transitions such as losing a job, going through a divorce, or the death of a loved one. If you are struggling with the emotional aftermath of these types of situations, I am here to offer support and guidance as you navigate through your grief and find healing. I approach therapy with a combination of empathy, compassion, and evidence-based techniques to help you navigate your emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, and ultimately find a sense of restoration and inner peace.

Jennifer, immediately built trust by validating my concerns and making me feel like we can build on a treatment plan.

The BEST therapist. Literally could not have made it through this last year and a half without her.

She is the best.
I have experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to support clients in recognizing and challenging unhelpful thought patterns. In my practice, I incorporate CBT tools like thought logs and behavioral strategies to help clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
