Hello and Welcome! I'm looking forward to meeting you! I have extensive experience as a psychotherapist helping people struggling with anger management, trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, domestic violence, parenting, divorce, women's issues, and low self-esteem. I earned my Masters in Social Work in 2006 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and am licensed in North Carolina and California as an LCSW assisting adults, adolescents and families. I am a trained cognitive behavioral therapist with experience integrating mindfulness and stress-reduction approaches into my practice. My approach combines comprehensive scientific knowledge, evidence-based methods, warmth, quite often a bit of humor, and a compassionate understanding of you as a unique individual, to help you solve problems, adjust to changes, grieve, grow, overcome emotional distress, and improve interpersonal interactions. I am here to walk beside you, and together we can explore any hidden dynamics affecting your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I will also ask for your feedback frequently, ensuring we are on the right track, and that you feel heard, and understood. What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I love what I do, and view everyone as complex and multifaceted, so you will find me keenly interested in your life story, thoughts, challenges, goals, and successes. In our first session, we will also begin the process of considering some specific goals for our work together. How will you know you don't need therapy anymore? What would that look like? Feel like? & You may even have homework! You will leave our session with some clarity, feeling hopeful, and glad you took this big step.

I love what I do (I know I said it before but it does bear repeating), and feel honored to be entrusted with your care. I have myself experienced the relief & healing of trauma therapy, and believe strongly in giving back, helping others as I was helped. I am passionate about mental health, & never stop educating myself on new research and treatment models, and actively advocate for improved Mental Health access. I have 18 yrs of experience as a therapist, with plenty of life experiences prior to becoming a therapist, helping me understand, relate, and be humble, since the more I know the more I realize what I don't know. Schema Therapy

I apply an integrative approach, as a CBT/Schema Therapist, bringing together elements from CBT, attachment and object relations theories, Gestalt, and experiential therapies to reduce anger, anxiety, depressive thoughts, self sabotaging behaviors, and improve our relationships. I help you understand your core emotional needs and learn ways of getting those needs met in an adaptive manner, which requires altering long-standing cognitive, emotional, relational, and behavioral patterns. Together we look at the development of current symptoms, the factors that maintain them, and effectively challenge those self-defeating core beliefs that can make our lives and relationships so difficult.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I've been effectively utilizing CBT for 18 years with my patients, assisting people, just like you, recognize, examine and challenge their distorted and negative self-talk, assumptions, rules, self-criticisms, fears/dread, perfectionism, anger, people-pleasing, and more. Your feelings are always real and valid, but are all the thoughts that got you there? Well, not so much. Let's look at those.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

This positive, supportive, validating, solution-building approach has helped enrich the lives of so many of the people I have supported throughout the last 18 yrs. Viewing your problems in terms of what is going right, rather than the hopelessness and helplessness of only focusing on what is wrong. I can assist you inviting in self-reflection and experimentation, paving the way towards personal growth . What is your image of your future? Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT is exciting work. It is about action, about finding your purpose and meaning, and acting in alignment with your values. I have assisted countless people figure out what really matters to them, who do they want to be, and what do they want to do during their brief time on this earth. ACT assists you to be fully engaged in whatever you are doing, and to create a rich, full, and meaningful life. Utilizing Acceptance and Commitment therapy also gives us mindfulness skills to handle painful thoughts and feelings effectively, in such a way that they have much less impact and influence.

Narrative

Narrative therapy views your life as multilayered and full of possibilities waiting to be discovered. This approach helps you resist identifying with your depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, etc and instead view these as something you can address, manage, and cope with. We explore your life stories including the ones that you see as more significant or fateful than others, usually from negative events, and explore how these stories have shaped your identity, and can be reframed, uncovering your dreams, goals, values and skills, separate from your problems. You can take charge in owning and sharing your story.
